That's terribly bad news. It must've been an horrific accident. I've seen plenty of riders sadly killed over the years but not two in one go. RIP to Dani and Bernat.

The Suzuka 8 Hours is on this weekend. It probably has the highest profile field it has had for a long time. Honda got the ball rolling by unveiling Casey Stoner as leading their factory bike alongside young superbike gun Michael van der Mark and Takumi Takahashi (who has won the last two). Yamaha fired back with Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith racing for them with Kats Nakasuga (they tried to get Rossi and Lorenzo to race but too much was at stake with the MotoGP title). The Yoshimura Suzuki Team will be a challenger again with Josh Waters fronting up again, teamed with Alex Lowes and Takuya Tsuda.

There are five other Aussies invloved. Josh Hook should be competitive on the FCC Honda (with Moto2 rider Dom Aegerter and WSS rider Kyle Smith), Broc Parkes is riding for the strong Yamaha Austria Racing Team, Jason O'Halloran and Troy Herfoss are teamed together on the Sakurai Honda and Australian privateer rider Phil Czaj will ride a Nanotop Suzuki.

The race can be seen on Eurosport on Sunday.

There were mixed results at the 8 Hours for the Australian contingent. Obviously it is well documented that Casey Stoner's comeback didn't go according to plan with a stuck throttle causing him to crash.
Broc Parkes was running as high as 8th when a glitch caused his Yamaha to lose power and stop.
Jason O'Halloran and Troy Herfoss were running inside the top 10 but unfortunately crashed. The bike was repaired but they finished a distant 48th.
Phil Czaj team finished 47th after issues of their own.
The Yoshimura Suzuki team lead the race at times but a small crash from Tsuda ruined their podium chance. Josh Waters finished the race for them and they came 5th.
Josh Hook's FCC Honda team rode a brilliant race to come home 2nd.

Am already looking forward to next year, especially as Kawasaki will have a new ZX10R and Johnny Rea is already in discussions about racing the 8 Hours for them!

Long time driver and a great bloke to have a chat to in the paddock.

RIP Bill Pye

Darcy Ward is back racing speedway after serving his suspension for turning up to a race meeting with a blood alcohol reading. However, racing in the Polish Speedway League on the weekend he was involved in a sickening crash that saw him him the wall back first. He was conscious after the crash but reported no feeling in his lower body and was rushed to hospital for spinal surgery. Heal up soon Darcy.

Australian Josh Brookes won both races of the British Superbikes at Cadwell Park this weekend. It puts him 39 points clear in the championship. Fair to say he was flying! (boom boom)

God damn it's been a terrible weekend. Hope for the best

Fans of the Polish speedway team that Darcy Ward was racing for have being rallying for him outside his hospital window.

Beautiful.

Heartbreaking.

God I hope it doesn't end up as I'm fearing it will for Darcy.

Tough weekend for Aussie motorcycle racers - particularly of the old retired kind.

Troy Bayliss, racing flat track in his home town of Taree, tangled with another rider and crashing hurting his hand and head, aggravated an old back injury and smashed his collarbone.

Meanwhile, at a historic bike race meet at Phillip Island, 59 year old former superbike champ, Robbie Phillis, crashed his Suzuki and suffered lumps on his head and a blood clot in it, a dislocated should and cracks in his elbow and spine. Otherwise he's fine...
