GIANTS small forward Liam Sumner is expected to miss start of the 2015 season due to a foot injury.
The 21-year old will be sidelined for the next four and half months due to a navicular stress fracture in his right foot. No surgery is required for the injury with the small forward to wear a moon boot for the next two months. Sumner has played 12 games in his three seasons at the GIANTS and is expected to return to the field in the middle of April.

Meanwhile, young forward James Stewart has also suffered an interrupted pre-season after being diagnosed with glandular fever. Stewart is resting away from the club and so far no timeline has been put on his return to training. Stewart ended last season on a high, kicking three goals in the GIANTS’ Round 23 win against the Western Bulldogs. He also took out the NEAFL Development Award after a strong season for the UWS GIANTS.

Poor kid Sumner, just can't catch a break. 2015 is really make or break as far as his future is concerned.

Terrible news re Stewart. He's still quite wiry so needs another big off season and glandular fever is very debilitating...Hope he recovers soon as we need him.

Can see Sunshine playing up forward next year.

Young defender Lachie Plowman is expected to miss the start of the season after dislocating his elbow at training.
Plowman, 20, underwent surgery in Sydney on Thursday night after falling awkwardly on his left elbow.
The operation went well with the GIANTS medical staff expecting Plowman to be sidelined for 12 weeks.

Young forward James Stewart is recovering well after suffering from glandular fever in December and is slowly building up his workload towards full fitness.
Stewart spent some time away from the club late last year and was on light training duties when the GIANTS went to the Sunshine Coast for a training camp prior to Christmas.

Having undergone knee reconstructions last year, defender Tim Mohr and key forward Jon Patton are both recovering well with Patton taking part in Monday’s 3km time trial at Tom Wills Oval. Mohr looks set to return to the field in the early part of the season, while Patton is eyeing a return later in the season.

Small forward Liam Sumner remains sidelined due to a navicular stress fracture in his right foot and is expected to miss the start of the season while young recruit Jeremy Finlayson continues to recover from hip surgery and is expected to resume full training next month.Zac Williams is also close to re-joining the main training group following a significant ankle injury at the end of the 2014 season.

Plowman! fFS

We really need Corr to step up as a KPD for us as we are getting very thin with KPD stocks

Who else is there?
Haynes
Corr
Finlayson
Patfull
Davis
Marchbank

Ok maybe I'm overstating things

Title of thread says shoulder - article says elbow.

Either way:(:(

I know I call him WTF2 but he was getting better late last year. All the best for a speedy recovery.

Wonder if it's the same elbow as his draft year?

Edit: just looked at match photos and the left elbow is the one he'd taped, and the article on the club website mentions left elbow this time around.
Some guys are just prone to dislocations. WCE Beau Waters has had recurring problems with elbow and shoulders. Hoping he doesn't miss as much football, but ends up just as good a player.

Club setting things straight

Greater Western Sydney has rubbished claims star recruit Ryan Griffen has been hampered by a back complaint this pre-season. There had been murmurings that a back issue, which Griffen managed during his last season at the Western Bulldogs in 2014, had worsened in his first few months at the GIANTS. But GWS coach Leon Cameron was quick to dismiss those concerns. "We couldn't be happier with Ryan Griffen. He's completed 85-90 per cent of our pre-season and he's in fantastic shape," Cameron told 3AW on Thursday evening. - See more at: http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2015-02-06/griffen-good-to-go#sthash.Pw4kdgLR.dpuf

Everyone is going to curse getting injured more than past seasons. The competition for spots and no free games policy now assures this. Townsend, Mohr, Plowman, Stewart, even Scully will be concerned about breaking back into the side. The only guy on the injury list who probably shouldn't be too worried is Patton, as he has no natural competition. Sunshine maybe, but he'd have to be doing something pretty special to keep the General out after he had eased through a couple of NEAFL games.
