Guy McKenna must be thanking the AFL Gods for bad karma

The Suns injury list is at a concern. No Prestia, O'Meara, Swallow, Ablett, Malceski etc etc etc
Rocket Eade can't be too blame but Suns have fallen way behind the 8-ball in expectation and fellow expansion team GWS have surpassed them is an understatement. What is the expectation for rest of the season for Suns? What's the aim for next year? Can they recover and become a great team without Ablett?

Don't think we will forget about Carlton...

There's no other way to say it but they are truly rooted until the bye. Tough draw and horrendous injury list. For the rest of the year though they can win some games after the bye and sort through the list.

Malceski, Thompson, Glenn, Day, Martin and hopefully Ablett should be back post bye.

Leaves them still without Prestia, Swallow and O'Meara which is 3/4 of their starting inside midfield and any team would suffer without there 3 best ball winners.

But I think signs of their depth showing a bit of improvement and life are there and there's enough to work with on the list if the high level talents are fit.

Rucks: Nicholls, Smith (not at his best), Gorringe, Brooksby (Debuting this week) - Most clubs would love this group
Key forward: Lynch, Dixon, Day (INJ), Peter Wright - Lynch and Dixon look a powerful combination when fit
Small forward: Martin (INJ), Matera, Miller (a good find), Boston, Sexton - Martin and Miller a handy duo to rotate through the midfield
Key back: May (susp), Thompson (INJ), Schade and Leslie (both showing a bit) - Less certain but 4 options for 2 spots with development in them
Medium def: McKenzie (bit of a let down), Cameron (inj), Tape - not sold on the last 2 but McKenzie is super talented
Small def: Malceski (inj), Lemmens, Saad (great find) - If Malceski gets back it's a skilled group, missing a lock down guy and depth
Inside mid: Ablett (inj), Swallow (inj), Prestia (inj), O'Meara (inj), Rischitelli, Hallahan (hasn't done much) - probably lacking depth but the first 4 can all dominate games
Outside mid: Bennell, KK, Harbrow, Garlett (inj), Matt Shaw - depth isn't there but options for speed and skill especially if Bennells sorts himself out

So there's probably opportunity to trade out a tall forward/back/ruck or one of each if they are confident in what they have coming through. Whether that means losing Dixon, Day or Smith I don't know if that's good or not but there are options.

FB: McKenzie May Lemmens
HB: Saad Thompson Malceski
C: Bennell O'Meara Kolodjashnij
HF: Miller Lynch Ablett
FF: Martin Dixon Matera
Foll: Nicholls Swallow Prestia
Int: Rischitelli Harbrow Shaw Garlett

That's probably a tough team to beat. Really good skills and pace. A couple of big guys at either end. Some ball winning in the middle. The issue is the depth after that isn't much chop at all so the injuries have really hurt. Besides the young tall guys it might be whatever Stanley and Broughton can manage (which isn't much) and then Josh Glenn, Sexton, Boston, Hallahan and that's about it.

You'll defend another team with recruiting and cap concessions. You've gone out on a limb here.

Hardly's GC's fault when you go out and sign a coach who has been out of the system for years, then ship off your best players. GC have a better list. Average depth, but their best 22 is better than anything Carlton can put up.

We'd be absolutely stuffed if we lost Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne, Lewis and Birchall, so I think we can't be too hard on the Suns. They'll be absolutely fine in time once they get their stars back and Eade has had a chance to implement his system.
Giants haven't suffered without the injured Patton and the likes of Boyd, Hombsch, Adams, Jaksch, Bruce, Whiley and Tyson. GC's culture appears to be on the nose. Arguably recruited the wrong senior types as uncontracted players to aid their young guns. Brennan, Harbrow, Bock and Rischitelli. Not to mention Hunt who was sacked and is facing drug charges.

Ablett is a jet, but you can imagine the grief Judd or Murphy would be copping as captain if Rischitelli was the one pulling Bennell. No leader like Carey, Selwood, Kernahan and Hodge. Just a gun like his father and
Diesel. Geelong's leaders had to lay down the law to Ablett and Johnson because they were underachievers.

McKenna was sacked so Eade could be brought in as an experienced coach. Awfully similar to Ratten copping the bullet so Malthouse could right the ship. Hasn't delivered with Carlton using just as many players this season. Talent only takes you so far.

You do realise injured players are different to players that are traded?

For example if you have Prestia, Ablett, O'meara injured they cannot play.

Whereas GWS traded Boyd for Griffen and Marchbank, Tyson for effectively Kelly and so on. Effectively you are getting compensated for their loses but when players are injured you don't. Do you see why you can't compare injured players with traded players as loses?

Let's also give Eade more than 8 rounds and a s**t load of injuries to say that he is Carlton's Malthouse, even though I believe it was the wrong decision to sack him.
