An ugly win to see us go 3-0..... you gotta win those games and we did. I thought it'd be a bit more comfortable, but Melbourne tightened the game up, as did the conditions. There'll be some sore boys tomorrow!

Good:

  • MacKay's return to form. Hard at it, running goal. Can't ask much more! Double figure tackles!
  • CEY. Those 2 goals were both excellent!
  • Kelly's debut. A few hiccups, but was hard at it. Record amount of tackles for a debutant!
  • Tex kicking a few, even though he was held well by McDonald
  • Howe's speccy was pretty good, but MacKay's courageous mark was better
  • Thommo got a ton of the ball and his chase down in Q1 of JKH was epic!
Bad:

  • Our midfield spread out of the centre seemed to be lacking compared to the previous 2 weeks. No doubt Roos would've put a lot of time into it, but it really hurt us not getting clear centre breaks and not being able to get it out to a player on the wing
  • We got smashed in contested ball and ground ball
  • JJ playing like a marshmallow
  • The umpiring was pretty meh. Lots of contentiousness and no protection for Danger
  • Lack of intensity by us to start the game was poor. We've been on fire in the previous 2 games first half, but today was very average
  • Betts struggled again today. Jetta seems to have him covered every game
  • Danger falling back into bad habits after a good 2 weeks being a bit more open
  • Melbourne only scored goals due to our turnovers..... (at least 41 points came from our turnovers)
Ugly:

  • Paul Roos coaching style. It's worked for him. Once. But Melbourne were attacking in round 1 and got a massive win, kicking over 100 points for the first time under his tenure, then the first half last week, they were on track again. They get smashed in the 2nd half last week to lose by a ton and they come out playing the man and being all dour and defensive again. Note to Roos, you'll need to kick goals to win games!
  • Vince's attack on Danger. Can't believe he didn't give away more frees. Was an ugly game against his old side. Sure it worked, but if you're gonna play that way, you aint gonna win much
  • Some of our switches across the ground were just dumb. Hartigan and Cameron the worst 2, with some shocking kicks, but they were trying to be too cute in those conditions
  • The conditions

Now lets get this game out of our heads, we got the W, we're 3-0. Now we move on!

Tough game next week against the Dogs away..... Will be interested to see how we pull up!

Have at it with your thoughts!

The ******* ugly

The umpiring. After two weeks of reasonable work, they were ******* clueless today. If players from either club get fines for that melee, the AFL should take the money out of the umpires pay packets.

They caused it, pure and simple.

The reason the players were so frustrated was because holding the ball was non-existant, players got sniped off the ball and held without the footy. All. *******. Day.

Good:
  • We won.
  • We never have to watch this game ever again.
Good
Mackays game in the wet.
Elllis Yoelman
Sloaney
Talia
Brown - becoming in one of better defenders
Yaensch
Thommos return
100 tackles for the game.

Bad
Hendo - you need to be tougher and play team defence - you should have come across and helped out Talia in the last quarter. You need to be tougher when it counts.
Charlie - you need to get more of the ball and use it better when you get it.

Ugly
Lack of physicality in Jenkins game - grow some balls son and attack the ball
Vinces elbow on Sloaney and attack on Danger.
When Tex is well held we look quite impotent in attack when high ball comes in.
We need a forward who can take a mark.

I honestly have no idea how to feel about that game..we won and we had no injuries. I guess that's what matters, we were never going to have a huge win against a Roos coached side in conditions like those.

Soft spot for Brisbane
Giving it towards Vince is pretty sad. He wanted to stay at Adelaide. Your club moved him on.

Well done on the win. 3-0 and top of the table. Enjoy!

That wasn't why he got booed. It was the late hits on Sloane and Dangerfield - plus others..

I was devastated when he left, always loved the Bern but the fact is he was moved on because he was slack as s**t and never amounted to his potential.

I was actually happy to see him do well at times last year as well, but he was a real campaigner today.

I dont think we should kid ourselves as supporters this was always going to be a danger game against an opponent that was bottom 4 last year but had managed to beat us at home last year and inflict a terrible home loss.

We got the 4 pts and won by about 4 goals and no injuries. The fact that Mackay and CEY played good games only improves our depth.

Next.

The Good:
- We learnt to win ugly today. That will be vital come the pointy end of the season
- we came from behind to win, shows the team has a strong will that doesn't give up

The Bad:
- Our defence. How many goals did they kick from turnovers, and Hartigan should've been subbed for his clanger.

The Ugly:
- Paul Roos. I'm going to avoid having a dig at Vince as he was merely the symptom of the root cause, and that is Roos wanting Melbourne to play like a bunch of goons. Paul Roos caused that 3 quarter time melee with his disgusting style of play. If Melbourne want to play that way, that's up to them but they're not going to win many games playing the man and not the ball.

He wasn't getting booed at all in the first quarter!

It's when he turned filthy sniper the crowd turned on him.....

You don't treat an enemy like that, let alone blokes you call mates. Umpires should have stepped in.

I accept and expect hard tackles and good competition, but not dirty behind the ball tactics. It reminded me of the old day of Libber?

Anyone feel like that today about Vince's game?
