That's when we were rich.

We've lost our job and broken up with Tie Kuang, time to move back home for a while.

The new treasurer in WA can see the problem now & in a too rare admission by any serving politician, has had to revise his planned return to surplus

Mr Wyatt said it remained his “ambition” to return the Budget to surplus by 2019-20 but “rapid and bold decisions” around recurrent spending would be needed to achieve it. “The fiscal scorched earth that has been left to me means that I and Cabinet have got a responsibility to try and ensure that the trajectory of spending changes and so I’ve asked for advice on a range of different options,” he said.

WA had been expecting to get 38 cents out of every GST dollar raised in the state in 2017-18, but that has now been revised down to 34 cents.

While the 34 cent figure is an improvement on the 30 cents WA receives for 2016-17, it is still a substantial write down on Treasury's expectations

Arent WA the only State to have secured gas for power generation, no wonder they are getting shortchanged !!

God forbid WA makes some money, or has some nice things.

Eastern States - lol bad luck WA we will take your cash and do you no lube for years after spiraling you into major debt all because you built some much needed infrastructure. Also have fun with a recession because you can't increase spending to compensate for dwindling mining investment cause we took your GST and put you into debt. lol WA. Also lol WA, you actually have the most secure energy supply out of any state, but nope you don't deserve the GST lol WA.

Bob Hawke was born in Bordertown.
Good point. Curtin wasn't even WA born. So actually we've never had a WA born PM and we wonder why WA might get shafted in an Eastern States club.

Prime ministers with division outside of birth state
Of the 22 Australian-born individuals who have served as Prime Minister of Australia, four served after representing a division in a different state than the one in which they were born.

My guess from that is not all gst money goes to the states. Only qld from the larger population states gets more back

Btw Victoria has been ridiculously short changed on infrastructure grants over a ten year period. Partly our own fault when one government didn't even ask properly

Where was Bob when he won a Rhodes Scholarship? Not sure it helps where you were born or schooled, take Mike Fitzpatrick, didn't do anything special for WA footy in his time on the Commission.
Surely Prime Ministers treat all of Australia equally within the constraints of the voting public ?

I think more just for perspective; and ability to win friends and influence where you are born does help.

A lot of the current ministers would of either gone to the same schools/university's in the eastern state, in-turn their perspective is more shaped by their state. Also, they are more likely to promote their own that also worked through a similar system, hence no WA PM's.

Agree though that a PM would treat all equally
