I would be annoyed if we let Griff go :(!!!

It would be ridiculously short-sighted by Freo if we traded him. Next year with the reduced interchanges, it is absolutely a must for teams to carry 2 rucks in a game. If Clarke gets an injury, who would we have to replace him? Hannath. If Hannath goes down with an injury as well, or Sandi, then we are stuffed.

Furthermore, Griffo is a Perth lad and I can't see him being okay with being traded. Next rumour!

According to Trade wrap, Gold Coast is looking to offer Pick 22 to Collingwood for Seedsman. Now, I reckon pick 22 is about the mark for Bennell (being fair-ish to all parties). So, who wants to play for Collingwood and is worth about the Pick 22 mark?

Make this a three-way player swap and we can move on and GC get to keep their Pick 22.

Thats not fair, HB got sacked by the club and happen to nominate a club in WA. Freo should only cave in if the Eagles come to play, which isn't going to happen.

So we offer second/third round which GC won't use, GC tell us to stick it and he remains a sacked player who can't be re-drafted until the expiry of his current contract. Or GC tell HB that they aren't prepared to deal with Freo so he needs to find another club or he sits out of footy for 2 years.

If we get him for a second or third round pick, that's great work from Bondy & Co. Not many clubs gets raped at the trade table anymore though. And anyway you cut it, getting HB for a second or third round pick is going in dry.

Agreed, we're going to have to throw them a bone. It's the size of the bone that they are presumably haggling over.

Not if he stuffs up and gets banished from the club. He's elite in terms of playing ability and based on that alone, is worthy of selling the farm. However, he has a very big asterisk next to his name because he's a high risk of not working out. GC told the whole league not to bring the lube to the trade table when they published his indiscretions and said he was now persona non grata.

That is wrong, if they sack him he will come as a delisted free agent. Mccarthy would have to sit out if he wanted to leave gws but the clubs have the power to delist and Harley can move anywhere. Unless you think GC will keep him contracted and pay him 600K a year not to play a game. Highly unlikely

If they delist him, they still have to pay him out though. More likely scenario is that they tell him to find another club for them to trade with.

Or we tell him to go on a public bender, then do a tell all interview saying he needs family to get him through and walk into the psd.

Not quite in line with what we have been hearing/hoping...but shots fired Mr Ashcroft. That's how you do it yo.

A meeting between Fremantle coach Ross Lyon and Harley Bennell has helped ease the Dockers' nerves about taking the midfielder on.

It is understood Lyon and Bennell met face-to-face in Perth on Tuesday, with the Dockers shaping as the Gold Coast player's probable new home despite the club wavering somewhat in recent days.

While the Suns will push for at least the Dockers' first pick in the draft, No. 16, Fremantle is likely to view that as too big a price given the lack of competition for the highly talented onballer.

The Dockers are well aware of the off-field issues that led to the Suns deciding to move Bennell on at the end of the season and are continuing to conduct their own research.

Perhaps the reason West Coast were so angry at the Selwood compensation was that they thought they would be able to swoop in with a end of first round pick and try and force us to use our first.

It isn't good football business of course to let other flag threat clubs get better. That is why I wonder if GWS will pay peanuts for a player from Hawks/Syd or one of those will pay way overs for a GWS player so they don't trade McCarthy to us and make us a threat.

West Coast wanted the compo pick to use on Jetta.

I guess Freos firm stance of not offering what they deem as overs may mean they won't get him or even McCarthy and in this supposedly weak draft their first two picks might turn out to be average ability players.

If Freo can't secure McCarthy through trade week I'd hope they offer a first round pick for Bennell.

We should put this years second on the table for Jetta. It will be before West Coasts picks. GC can have next years second as they won't be in a position to use our second this year.

Everyone gnashing their teeth over Geelong's trading success, geez. All I see is a team with inadequate talent in the bottom half of their best 22, who have also just retired most of their experience, tying up possibly over 15% of their cap on just three players, two of whom are not exactly high impact. I call it extremely high risk, not making out like bandits. Not saying it can't work, but it could easily blow up for them. Settle down.

If we trade next years second then it means we can't trade next years first. You're only allowed to trade 1 future pick per year.
I thought it was that we were required to make at least 1 selection in the first 2 rounds every 2 years? Couldn't we trade in a pick in the first 2 rounds (either this year or next year)?
