My point was that all clubs make big opening statements and then negotiate in their best interests.

Indeed. In fact given their public statement about trading him perhaps he can threaten restraint of trade if they then refused to trade and did not play him.
Surely our 2nd round pick should get the deal done.

Seems to be the Freo pov, Suns saying 2 first rounders. Every other camp not surprised when it meets in the middle with a first rounder, either this year's or next.
Have to say if there's any faith at all that Bennell will make a go of it at Freo it can't be far off fair value.

Yep a no2 pick who has shown plenty on field, an offer of pick 16 should be a massive low ball but everything that's happened including the Suns declaring him a definite trade out means it's Freo playing nice.
Freo's second round pick is 35 at best, maybe that will get it done imo it won't.

I think it will be more than just pick 16 but if the Suns hadn't committed to trading him they could have leveraged much more.

As someone else said here about the Fevola trade it wasn't the picks that screwed Brisbane it was how much they pissed off their own players to get it done.
The deal will be dependent on McCarthy, who has more value to the Dockers despite Bennell's ability. Assuming we do not get McCarthy, perhaps our first with some of gcs unwanted later picks coming as well. But the reality is Suns have flagged the risk factor in a big way right from the start of this saga. That will have a huge impact on any deal.
2nd rounder will get it done due to Gc declaring him out, freo being the only suiters and Harley nominating us.

massive assumption: Bennell will be committed and out on the field, not snorting coke off a stripper at 3am the night before the game.
His behavioural issues alone push him down 1 round IMHO.
even a crap first round pick that we have is worth more surely.
When has that happened? Or do you think that paying some ridiculous price for a dud like Mitch Clark would have been a good idea? That's something the previous rubbish admin would have done.

It will be a first rounder. Pick 30 odd is just not going to be enough unless something else is added. Yes GC have shot themselves in the foot, but he is still contracted and with all the problems, he has shown that it has not affected his onfield performances.

Well it has affected his on field performances because he was dropped for it a few times then put up for trade
Our 2nd is closer to 40. Happy to offer our 2nd rounder plus a fringe player.
Outside of a 1st round pick (these will be used in the McCarthy trade) what players would you be interested in? or would our 2nd round pick be enough?
