Have we raised the white flag when it comes to Port Power?

Football is a part of the ANZAC day festivities for the actual diggers. At least in SA.

Do the march, have a few beers whilst playing Two Up then off to watch the previous years Grand Finalists square off.

I do wonder if Norwood and the Port Magpies would be able to continue this tradition in 2015 given the Power play that night. Including allowing anyone who has served in the ADF in for free. Could be a good curtain raiser.

Footy and ANZAC day have always gone hand in hand.

Norwood have already been informed this won't be happening.

As if the Armenian Genocide had anything to do with the objectives of the Gallipoli action.
I think that's a bit simplistic - as with all wars, the dynamics are complex and inevitably intertwined.

You could debate it for hours

I think they are talking about playing Friday night or moving it to Norwood oval.

Either way the AFL and Port should be ashamed of themselves. Purporting to care about the ANZACs and then shamelessly exploiting it for commercial gain

This is what galls me - its media driven with all their battlefield analogies. Shameless commercialisation and shows nothing but disrespect
I look forward to the day that Collingwood sack Buckley, If I have to sit through any more of his steely glare gazes over an empty suburban footy ground overlaid on the shore of Gallipoli with <insert Ch7/10 voice over dude waxing lyrical> as the last post plays before it fades to black .... I may well puke.

May or may not. But it certainly doesn't paint the Turks as innocents without blood on their hands.

Depends how you look at it. The Russians had captured huge parcels of their land, and with it came their people. The Ottomans were neutral leading into the war. Russia declared war on them due to how Europe was panning out as they were the only obvious supply route. Unsurpringly, given they had come out on the wrong side of this sort of aggression from the Russians before they also declared war, and took a side.

They pretty much took the step of expelling all Russians from their land. Extreme, but hey we locked up Japanese and Germans too, there are just levels of extreme behaviour. The genocide started the day before Allied forces landed at Gallipoli. That shows amazing, almost Jedi like, foresight on the Allies behalf given the lead in time it took for any troops to land there.

I liked the crow noise, I liked it even more before people complained and the volume got turned down. No issues here. If some of our supporters don't like it then thats ok but for Port supporters who have a go at it fake crow noise = bad but fake "power" noise = good?

Put me in the "liked the Crow noise" camp too. Thought it added something original to our games and actually took advantage of the badassery that Crows have so much potential for, but we usually refuse to tap into.

A few non-Crows friends who went to games said they hated it, which is fine. If there's anything that can make the opposition feel even more like s**t after a Crows goal then I'm all for it.

The Muslim Turks lost key battles with the Russians and blamed the Christian Armenians. It was genocide on religious grounds. Nothing much has changed

Fascinating.

Personal opinion here is NO football should be played on ANZAC day, I find it sickening when footy players payed 100,000 dollars are compared to the brave souls who gave their lives for this country.

This. The best player is then awarded the 'ANZAC Medal', which is designed to look like war medal. Utterly disgraceful.

Exactly, none of which had any bearing on why ANZACS were in Gallipoli. There was no actual Armenian genocide until after all the Allies got there, to suggest anything else (not that you did) is wrong.

Nor did I..

Because our little anti everything western comrade implied the allies were aggressive invaders. No way were the Turks innocents during the first world war.

So the big nasty western countries Australia and Britain were the aggressors and the Turks were just innocent bystanders. There's about 1 million dead Armenians who may beg to differ.
Yes, you did suggest it. You inferred that a neutral country were somehow an aggressor by killing a million Armenians that resulted in Britain, France and Australia invading them in some kind of retaliation.

You further go on to say that Turkey were not innocent in the whole thing by using subsequent events (that mostly occurred after every Allied soldiers were taking it easy in Egypt) to back up a falsehood reason for being there in the first place.

Actually their lives were sacrificed for various empires and their interests, not our country - bar WWII perhaps.

The Allies were aggressive invaders. They had something we wanted and more importantly needed. It had to be aggressive they were one of the more skilled defenders going round 1) built on centuries of wars with competing empires and 2) how Gallipoli turned out - a dismal failure - it proved to be correct.
