How does Capitalism help stupid people in a globalised world?

If they don't smarten up, wise up they stave. A rumbling stomach is a great motivator.

But people dont exisit in a vaccum. Some people are born rich, and some poor. Not everyone has the same opportunities and through no fault of their own.

Sometimes people starve, not through bad choices, but due to circumstances beyond ones control. And sometimes people get wealthy despite total incompetence due to powerful friends or family.

And there are many other factors that have an equal or even more devestating effect on the above.

Thats why we need welfare nets and other mechanisms to assist these people and get them back in the market.

Remember, for every buisiness that succeeds, there is one that fails. Thats a natural extension of capitalism, and we need to protect the ones that drop off to promote the system and protect from the extremes of capitalism.

How does an unemployed youth with no rental history move cities?

That is a defeatist attitude. You should stay at home with your mum as with an attitude like this you will fail.

back in my day.......
parents went guarantor for minors and parents, school teachers and others elders would go in to the real estate agent and assist with the application.

another trick would be to wash your hair, wear clean clothes and make the application in person.

This issue you raise is merely an issue and not a problem that can't be resolved.

Probably easier now than it ever has been.

I can't imagine how anyone shopped around for rental properties in the days before the internet + mobile phones. Whenever I have looked for rental properties I've been able to fit in visiting 7-8 per day.

With the amount of information available as well as the low barrier to entry through things like Gumtree, finding somewhere to live on a low income base should not be a show stopper. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's not as hard as it must have been in the past.

Don't forget no money

we live in Oz

1) we have social welfare
2) we have more work than people
3) if you are serious about getting ahead it isn't hard in this nation but you have to surround yourself with positive people

where the problem sits is there are communities who are cut off from opportunity and as a result have given up. As a teenager it is difficult to see how pathetic the attitude has become as it feels normal.

the IPA will never talk of externalities. This is a major FAIL, EPIC fail

cos they hamstring themself, then they cant talk about positive externalities. We cant compare how much life has improved over the last two centuries, Hobbes needs to revise his dictum "life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short". Life in the developed West, is a whole lot better, immeasurably so, and cant compare. In the developing economies, this may still have relevance. In the third world, this stands to a degree of truth, with a promise and potential for alternative (future).

can we get a comment from our resident IPA genius medusala ?

positive externalities. and if scandanavia and latter C20 UK has a welfare state, they are also sucking on the advances made in Taiwan, Waterloo(Toronto), Seattle, Hamburg, Palo Alto, Tel Aviv. We all owe a debt to the innovation of the Americans.

Every man/for themselves now a days. Having a bunch of oldies round guarentees nothing. In fact the way some policies have been totally screwed I'd say there is great mistrust between the generations.

That has always existed throughout history. But those without opportunity in some societies are to a sense protected by those and the strucutres around them till they find their feet, excel in whatever society they exist under and then bring the next generation through once a level of success has been reached. Those that don't participate/fit the tests sadly don't survive.

Problem now is with the insane policies and punish the destitute attitude people are literally going to starve in the street, won't be happy about it and will feel no obligation to whatever vague social contract gets floated about when that has been well and truly broken.

Thou it will take postivity and engaging the masses to find a solution. You know getting the opinion and contribution of the workers on the ground and having them advise on what is happening and what really needs to be fixed. (Your lefites, bogans, nutters in the street engage them and offer them a seat at the table. - Won't happen as people like Abbott and his backers hate these people).

I grew up in a pissant town, with 35% unemployment for young adult males. over 90% of my class moved interstate to carve out a career. It wasn't easy but it was certainly better than the alternative.

It is embarrassing that we have 457 workers prepared to travel abroad to find a job and better life, yet our youth won't move out of home.

That's great, while working FIFO a bloke jumped out of a ******* helicopter because he was separated from his community.

People should not have to leave their people for jobs. Someone is making money off EVERY community, the people making money should be FROM that community.

We owe a debt to regular people who just got sick of being told what to do, who to pay, and what their station in life is.

It just so happens most of those people were working class Australians and Americans.

And yet you will not find many 20-35 year old men in Australia and America who aren't wolfing down the Captialist billionaire dream.

They did a ******* great job brainwashing the working class into believing it was Captialism that gave them a higher standard of living and not Socialism.

it is so sad people don't value families, communities and society

those that don't will lose

really? allocating blame for suicide to FIFO?

it is a mental health issue and the cause and solution is far more complex than you suggest.

people should have the courage leave their communities to further their education, or seek employment opportunities, if their current community doesn't offer the opportunities they want. Why repeat or perpetuate the mistakes of past generations? that said, some people accept failure.

As they say, it is easier to change yourself than change the world.

There is going to be a ******* shitstorm over the FIFO lifestyle. Might have worked back in the day when people would migrate to an area and settle there for work. But what is going on right now is horseshit. the towns don't get developed to handle the increased population, the workers have no family, friends and nothing to do with a shitload of disposable income, working hungover or stoned gets you sacked so you get on the meth cause it clears quicker.

Add that into being separated from your loved ones (some particularly cold people can do this for long stints, not most people) for weeks and weeks and the p[ressure that puts on teh family.

Can't blame the odd bloke for killing himself or the odd mother from drowning her children.

Just more victims of capitalism.

No it isn't more complex. FIFO lifestyle leads to depression and a shitload of other mental problems. I've lived it and seen it. 95% of the people I worked with are ****ed in the head by any objective standard, but would be normal if they were with heir community.

All communities in Australia should have access to jobs and education.

if you think otherwise you're an actual traitor.

personally I am against FIFO but it was the unforeseen consequence to FBT

scrap FBT and FIFO disappears

jobs are where the work is.

mining is just one example, as deposits don't come to cities so city workers need to go to deposits. but it is a young mans lifestyle and only for a short time.

just like the military......get in, do your time, get your education, save your $s and get out. the ones that fall into the military lifestyle of drinking and drugs fail to save and simply can't leave.

once the FIFO has completed their trade, they can return to the city expecting better opportunities.

oh and a traitor is someone who subscribes to a system that is cruel, holds people down and provides false hope (unions come to mind). I prefer to encourage people to do something positive for themselves and give opportunities to others. I also encourage people to stretch themselves and have the courage to make sacrifice and risk to improve their lives and the lives of others.

All covered back in the day BC.

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest."

“People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices”.

As Confucius says - Man holding brick #genius.

A good question to ask would be when is having too much money really too much?

A question one asks of the government(s) on a regular basis. Unfortunately their appetite for taking our money is seemingly never quenched.

Amazingly some people don't have a problem with that.

#antisemiteeconomics
#shovemultiplierupyourkhazi

A better question to ask is can there be such a thing as too much genius?

indeed, could be a confirmation bias. i know this trickle down s**t is scatology writ large.

the thing with the counter factual, we cannot adequately assess what occurs sans robber barons. is advance a product of the age of humanity, or the greater freedom of capitalism which INCLUDES exlpoitation of other individuals. And is this price acceptable?

its not actually the accumulation. its the consumption. they really should be addressing consumption. ie. how much water and electricity does Bill Gates house in seattle use? And how much virtue in creating positive externalities has he created. NOT the bill and melinda gates ameliorate my catholic guilt foundation

Always amusing that fans of the perverted jew hater say trickle down is rubbish but then will tell you that giving money to the poor is brilliant because they spend it and it has a multiplier effect

paradox of thrift = bat turds.

ie. how much water and electricity does Bill Gates house in seattle use?

Or Al Gore.

Or Bono's private jet.

"I have never known much good done by those who affected to trade for the public good"

The urge to save humanity is always a false front for the urge to rule it.”
