Here is my quick guess, please correct.

3 million - If they pay other AFL teams players there salary
3-4 million - Lawyers, Court Costs (Some covered by insurance)
1-2 million - Non afl players loss of earnings
1-2 million - 12 Top up players
1 million - Hird Salary when he was away in France
2 million - AFL Fine
200k -Work safe fine.

~30-50 million.

their future revenues have been hit, rule of thumb 15% off.

The current costs between 5-10 mill. Probably higher estimate there.

so the 30-50 less the 5-10... so in long term, the real cost, in 2016 money, be 20-45 off their future revenue.

That is a decent cost in anyones language. That would buy Little's Toorak property.

Heppell was down at Kia doing his thing like nothing had happened, wasn't he?
(AFL website, I was fairly gobsmacked, what kind of image is Kia looking to project?!)

I don't think Ian Hanke worked for free....

This would be more interesting if all party's costs could be calculated and assessed.

I don't know how you can quantify reputational loss but that should also be included.

Should include future costs as well, for example, increased insurance premiums, the ongoing costs of monitoring player health etc.

One last thing that should be considered is the gains some parties made to offset any losses. I have read posts saying that Dank's anti ageing business has boomed as a result of the publicity generated by the saga.

Essendon will probably get some good draft picks as well. If they came back and won a flag in 2017 that would definitely skew the equation and Bomber fans have joined up in droves since this all started.

They'll really feel it in 20 years when the kids they aren't getting now, and are dropping off, don't become members.

That's what's saved us ... literally ... is the Carey/90s kids coming of age and buying up.

Don't forget where it all started with Matty Knights' million dollars severance package.
I remember the Matty Knights on the couch interview, with Hird asking the questions about his coaching, knives in his eyes. One of them currently has a pretty nice career going along, the other, well...
