How should the world deal with ISIS?

So, apart from not doing that again, what does that tell us about how to deal with ISIS as it is now?
I can't see the current western world capable of the necessary changes absent a
Violent revolution or major economic global breakdown
So if current culture remains there will be a series of al qieda Isis ...
Defeat one and another will arise

i think we might be seeing the most amazing karmic rebalancing taking place. After 15 years of spectacular foreign policy disasters by the USA, policies at least partially and ostensibly inspired to protect israeli geo-political sensitivities, It is Israeli that is now most at risk from the growing ISIS/Al Qeida threat.

There is here a kind of comical karma at play, for all the treachery to suppress and contain all opposition to Israel, what could be more frightening to Israel than this expanding cult of drug fuelled, amoral hooligans surrounding them from Libya, Syria, Iraq, Egypt and elsewhere. How long before they turn towards their most natural enemy.

All the sustained treachery from Aipac, the Israeli lobby in Washington and Bibby has back fired. I wonder if the dancing Israelis themselves have quite woken up to the unintended consequences. Or should we call it collateral damage?

Almost makes a secularist like me start to believe in God and divine intervention, for the karma is comic genius.
The USA itself is with each passing day ever more hated throughout the world. Socialists elected in Greece, socialistleader of the uk labor party. Socialist contending against Hillary for the democratic nomination. Socialists breaking the dominance of conservative parties in Spain.

On the global scale the USA uni polar world has become dizzy with counter magnetic fields from China, Russia and others. The USA led capitalist model is broken. The tortured, the refugees, the murdered, the rendered and the disenfranchised from around the globe will not be forgotten.

The vey planet itself is enraged by USA led arrogance and global stupidity.

But it appears they may have literally and figuratively pulled their own monolithic towers down onto their own monolithic heads.

Umm, and ISIS?

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Anyway, back to ISIS. Interesting interview on ABC this morning with BBC journalist who has spent a lot of time on the front line there and was basically saying what Kilcullen would say in this situation.

He was citing the instances of local sheikhs who had previously been fighting against ISIS who switched because they offered them truckloads of money. On the ground, that would appear to support a policy of buying off the local sheikhs and potential fighters (as the US did successfully in Anbar) and restricting ISIS revenue sources, which is primarily oil smuggling.

There have been a number of ISIS fighter testimonies that state they fight because they get paid, not because of some deep seated belief in a literal interpretation of the most violent pages of the Koran. A choice of having your family live like paupers vs a regular, reliable monthly wage isn't a difficult one for thousands of people.

As usual, follow the money trail and that reveals plenty.

This is a great article from the Atlantic about the reasons why people join ISIS using interviews from 49 fighters who have defected or been captured.

The full article is in the link below but here are some excerpts of the article. Establishing the reasons as to why people join ISIS may provide governments (Western and/or Arab) to find solutions to counter the problem without necessarily bombing the group into oblivion which doesn't necessarily defeat the ideology they espouse.

The Quantum researchers grouped the fighters into nine categories, based on the reasons they gave for joining ISIS or other extremist groups. They are:

Status seekers: Intent on improving “their social standing” these people are driven primarily by money “and a certain recognition by others around them.”

Identity seekers: Prone to feeling isolated or alienated, these individuals “often feel like outsiders in their initial unfamiliar/unintelligible environment and seek to identify with another group.” Islam, for many of these provides “a pre-packaged transnational identity.”

Revenge seekers: They consider themselves part of a group that is being repressed by the West or someone else.

Redemption seekers: They joined ISIS because they believe it vindicates them, or ameliorates previous sinfulness.

Responsibility seekers: Basically, people who have joined or support ISIS because it provides some material or financial support for their family.

Thrill seekers: Joined ISIS for adventure.

Ideology seekers: These want to impose their view of Islam on others.

Justice seekers: They respond to what they perceive as injustice. “The justice seekers’ ‘raison d’être’ ceases to exist once the perceived injustice stops,” the report says.

Death seekers: These people “have most probably suffered from a significant trauma/loss in their lives and consider death as the only way out with a reputation of martyr instead of someone who has committed suicide.”

The nine potential identities are not equally represented among the survey pool.

As the articles says, 49 is too small to be representative but it'd be interesting to know numbers that fall into each of those psychological categories in the broader ISIS population and whether they shift from one category to another.

Cut supply of weapons.... Which would mean the U.S. not supplying them. And stop financing them via buying their Oil...
And stop paying them.

Yes I agree that the number is very small but I guess it's a starting point of being able to establish the motivations as to why certain people join ISIS.

The data suggests that the reasons are numerous and not isolated to only one or two factors as many may have anticipated initially.

Publication is at least as biased as RT so I'd not take even that dodgy study as being actually real.

Its a propaganda paper, Its saying things that agree with the US position- emphasizing the tyranny of the shia and downplaying the role of money in the statistics at least, over such a small sample candidates could have been chosen to skew results.

Really? You don't think the small number could have been to do with the small population to select from?

Check out who the researchers are, looks like a public relations/possible cia front.(Why the one office in Washington, one in Lebanon?) Its all about getting the Opinion Leaders message to the Audience.

Anyhow. Its not the ones who defect who are the greatest concern, its the ones who are really committed

Leaving aside the CIA front accusation, for which there is no proof at the moment, surely researching the defectors tells us something about how to weaken ISIS?

Realistically those who are totally committed are not going to be lured away, so part of the tactic should be to draw away those you can thus weakening the overall organisation. If you look at one of the groups - identity seekers - you can posit that other forms of identity building, including more moderate and peaceful forms of Islam have a role to play in ensuring this audience chooses an identity that's not tied to ISIS.

Well researching the researchers, has shown that Eli Khoury the CEO of Quantum is a colour revolutionary, an anti-Assad stalwart.
However your point about more positive islamic identity sounds valid, but goes against what is happening in practise - the arming and funding of (lol) moderate jihadists ... by our democracy loving friends in the USA and their (lol) execution loving monarchy allies in Saudi Arabia, not to mention their genocidal buddies to the North.
