Kalra: Shami's inclusion a risk worth taking


India have picked seamer Mohammed Shami for the World T20 and Asia Cup. Shami came back from Australia with a hamstring injury, and has not played for India since the 2015 World Cup. Virat Kohli, who has been rested for the three T20Is against Sri Lanka, also came back duly, replacing Manish Pandey in the 15-man squad. Shami took Bhuvneshwar Kumar's place.

The selection of Shami was a calculated risk. He had not proved his match fitness at the time of the announcement, on February 5. India's first match in the World T20 is on March 15, against New Zealand. The advantage with Shami is that from now we have 30 days before we start the World T20," chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil said. "Also we have the Asia Cup. So we have good time for making a call on Shami. He has been one of our best bowlers. He has recovered, he has started bowling. That's what I can say at the moment."

With how we performed in Australia, I'm happy wit that squad. My only issue is having Dhoni in the side. And it's good to see Ishant not playing.

As for the inclusion of Shami, they don't necessarily have to play him. With Nehra, Pandya, and Bumrah in the squad and taking into account that the pitches will most likely suit the spinners, it could just be a confidence booster with the selection.

I think India select Pandya and Negi coz India has nagging problem of batting during death over, both has ability to hits 4 or increase RR when its matter most
(during recent series vs Australia MSD not use him properly as batsman coz India's first 3 or 5 enough for feeble Australia ,but I wish Hardik get chance to show his batting talent vs Lanka tomorrow and from February 24 in Asia cup )
India select too many bowler minus extra specialist batsman for number 7, they should select one extra batsman either Jadhav,pandey or hooda .well Kevin Peterson think whichever team has better all rounder will win cup.
