Injury Injury thread 2016

Is it just me or did it feel like our medical staff may have turned the corner towards the latter part of last year? Like they appeared to be a bit more conservative with returns, managing players and more willing to play depth.
Probably because more players have stepped up and allowed us to do that.

He kicked 45 goals in 2012. I think he's capable of playing on the HFF.
Jetta - 45 goals in 2012 vs Hill - 40 goals in 2015

Yep you are right, Jetta is the obvious choice over Hill - I mean he scored 5 more goals 4 seasons ago than Hill did last season (yes that was sarcasm). I've extrapolated your logic and worked out our forwards are going to kick a total of 373 goals in 2016 (up 114 goals, ~44% from 2015). So we are going to easily outscore Hawthorn this season and win the flag. And that's without Gov or someone else slotting in as CHF.
  • Kennedy kicked 80 in 2015
  • LeCras kicked 63 in 2010
  • Darling kicked 53 in 2012
  • Jetta kicked 45 in 2012
  • Hill kicked 40 in 2015
  • Cripps kicked 34 in 2015
  • Lycett kicked 34 in 2014
  • Natanui kicked 24 in 2012
In reality, Jetta and Hill will both likely be in our B22 round 1.

If you view it as a discussion about who is in our best 22, it isn't. If there are no injuries for round 1 to starting mids and small forwards then it's a decision the match committee will have to make. If you think Hill is best 22, then you don't think Masten or Duggan is.

Agree there are often injuries and that Hill would be at worst our 23-25th best player.
Who kicked more goals in our side than Hill last year?

  • Lycett kicked 34 in 2014

Damn copy and paste :) Lucky 13 that should have been edited to. Maybe I should have used Giles with 18 in 2012 instead?

Whilst on Lycett... Do people think McInnes or Gov will possibly be used in the ruck in 2016? I like Lycett and think he is important for our future but if we can save the extra spot in the 22 and can bring in another high endurance mid/flanker instead do you think it's worth exploring other options at least? If Lycett was injured would you prefer Giles or the set up above?

I'd you think he should be in our best 22, then fair enough. I'd prefer Masten, Sheed and Duggan to start.
They play completely different roles. you'd really want Masten, Duggan or Sheed kicking maybe 20 goals in our forward line next year as opposed to Hill who can kick 40+? Makes no sense.

Re-read my comment and the post I was replying to. It was simply a comment that Jetta is capable of playing on the HFF. The rest of your post was just drivel.

I agree, completely different.

But that's not to say that we can't field a team with LeCras and Cripps as our only specialist small/medium forwards. Similarly, we can play those two and Hill. All depends on the role LeCras plays.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to think that Hill is in your best 22. I want him in mine, but I can't keep Duggan out of my preferred team.

Be interested to see your preferred 22 if you can be bothered (and also happy to discuss in the other thread if you like).

Why is this being discussed in the injury thread?

Don't we have a best 22 thread?

I get nervous everytime I see a new post here

Yeah sort of snowballed from my post on page 3 saying I'd bring Hill in for an injured Redden (rearranging the team to fit him in). Happy to drop it for the best 22 thread and get this thread back on track.

Tbh Duggan comes in for Masten if anything. I like Masto and can't really see him out of the team but it'd be pretty crazy to think your equal second (?) highest goalkicker wouldn't even be best 22.

Yes and we are debating why we would take out one of only 5 players on our list who has ever kicked 40 goals or over and did so last year, when 2 of the others only did so back in 2013 and 2012 (Darling and Jetta respectively)? Especially when Jetta and Hill play absolutely nothing alike and their roles are completely different. Jetta only scored 14, 14 and 10 goals the last 3 seasons (2012 was an aberration). It'd be a ridiculous gamble coming off a grand final berth to take Hill out of the team to make room for Jetta in our forward line. Jetta is possibly the league's classiest runner and will likely be used primarily for run and carry transition out of defence and quality i50 entry.

Hill won't be coming in for an injured mid. As our third most prolific scorer on form he'll be starting B22 and only if he doesn't repeat his form from 2015 will he be dropped. JK, LeCras and Cripps would be locks in our B22 unless injured. Hill and Darling would both be pretty secure as well. Bring in a quality CHF and our forward 6 is probably more dangerous than Hawthorn's. We also have good tall forward depth in McInnes and Lamb. And hopefully Cavka recovers later this year and Karpany improves further in the WAFL.

Our forward line is solid and should continue to be this year (unless we have lots of injuries). Our use of the ball from the back line through to quality inside 50 entries would be the main difference between us and Hawthorn. Jetta should be a major plus for us in that area.

Hoping for a relatively injury free 2016 so we can contend for the flag again.

Agree with all of this. I am excited to see what Jetta can bring to our midfield, our wings will be amazing with him and Gaff on either side. Calls for him to replace Hill on the hff are just odd because Hill is has amazing goalsense and was fantastic in the forwardline this year but they both score goals in different ways. Really seems strange to replace a goalsneak with a genuine winger.

Why do people think Jetta is going to be the player that he was in 2012?

Isn't is more likely he will replicate his 2015 form?

Sydney is a quality unit. It's not like a recruit from Melbourne or the dogs where the player has been weight training in a gym with only a bench press and the dumbbells stop at 40kg. He has most probably peaked regardless of his age.

This guy is not the saviour that is going to push WCE into a premiership. Bennell slipped through the fingers unfortunately. WCE will now just have to hope for an injury free year and Mckenzie to capture his best form.

It's all speculation of course but his heart just didn't seem to be in it. Plus as evidence of someone who can turn their career around after moving back home we have evidence in our team already. Josh Hill.

Never said he was the saviour, more like the cream on top. he may have had some average games last season, especially in finals but Sydney were raped by injuries and he probably was unable to play his natural role. Plus Sydney were a very contested side last year which wouldn't really suit Jetta's playstyle whereas WCE play a much more attacking brand of football.

I see Jetta lining up on the edge of the square for centre bounces and roaming forward.
We don't need his use out of the backlines.
Wellers and Shep have the half back roles and Hurn just adds to the class coming out of the backline.
None of those guys are notable goal kickers or have Jetta's speed.
