Really hope the cautious approach with Jack is taken. don't want it flaring up like Gilbos foot

Agree with this Mowman
Maybe we should have held off a bit with Gilbo.
Can't afford the same thing to happen with JS

I'm sure I read in one of the Richo emails that Steven is expected to play VFL this week, won't play AFL in round 4.

Not sure there's much reason to have held Gilbert back; the foot takes the impact of the body so he could reinjure it just as much by training or even running. He has to run and jump, to keep the body and muscle memory ticking over.
I played rugby and American Football at the same time when I was 20; ran essentially 3 seasons back-to-back-to-back. Then wrecked my knee kicking a football (soccer) with my mate's kid - specialist said it was just ready to go...could have happened walking up stairs or some other innoccuous way. May as well wreck it whilst playing!

When Pierce comes good in 5 weeks, does Eli hav to go back to being a rookie, unavailable for senior selection? :(
All clubs can elevate a player about half way through the year, so i'd assume Eli will be that man. 5 weeks is about round 8-9 i think

I suspect, then, we'll do the same thing we did last year, and in the latter half, put anyone with niggles in for early surgery so some of the other rookies can have a go.

Yep I think it'll be good for him too. Get him a run in the AFL, then a rest week, then 2-3 weeks in the VFL, then hopefully back up into the Saints 22 again.
Also I hope Mav Weller isn't needed, but suspect that there is a high chance that by the time we get to round 12 for example there'd be a season-ender or two. So folks will get a chance (other than maybe Shenton).

Also have a couple of players that would highly consider retirement if they had one more serious injury.
- Schneider and his hamstrings
- Lenny and his calfs/hammys
- Fisher and his hamstrings/feet

I think if injury forces retirement you can elevate like how Melb gets to keep Georgiou elevated and i think a few other clubs did it last year.

Scans have confirmed that young Saints defender, Nathan Wright has suffered a broken fibula during the match against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium yesterday.

Wright will undergo surgery later today and is anticipated to miss 10-12 weeks.

"Obviously, this is a disappointing injury for Nathan - especially after he had started the season so positively - but we expect that Nathan's outstanding commitment to his football will see him return to the Saints team later in 2014," St Kilda Head of Football Chris Pelchen said.

Armitage is not expected to be fit for next week’s home game against Brisbane, a side the Saints would be favoured to beat. While the Saints then take on the reigning premier they would be extremely keen to ensure the tough onballer did not miss the clash with Carlton - another the Saints would fancy they are a chance of winning.

"He won’t play this week. He is likely to miss two weeks and the worst case scenario at the moment is for him to miss four, but we are optimistic it will be no more than two," St Kilda’s head of football Chris Pelchen said.

It wouldn't hugely surprise me if Weller is the promoted blokes - can never have too many strong mids - and Eli gets 'demoted' or stays due only (in practical terms) to an LT; I reckon that we wanted to see in action before we committed to upgrading him at year's end, and that he very pleasantly surprised us...

Got some nice insight in Wellington. Templeton definitely likely to be out for the year, not the 8 weeks reported initially. The x rays apparently looked more like a hammer had been taken to the arm. High break, rod needed, likely will miss the year.

Armo is ahead of schedule. The 4 week thing was more about uncertainty. The only thing holding him back was the infection side of thing, which he is on top of. Chance against Hawks, otherwise expect him the week after.

The Fisher (1-2 weeks all the time) thing is genuine. Just keeps "falling at the last hurdle." He is frustrated but speaks really optimistically about it. Hamstring issue, just not quite pulling up 100%. Close, but he just hasn't been able to get there yet.

Edit: Dunstan a little sore also. Chance to be rested this week or next. Depends how he pulls up.

Does anyone have an idea how well arms heal from breaks like that? Considering they basically reinforce it with a rod It cant be too much weaker.

best case, like any other break.
worst case, turns into lecras and has reoccurring injuries in the same arm.

who knows really
