Burns playing well and we don't pick him in an Ashes squad...well done CA
Not this again. His absence from the squad is not why we lost.

1-2 was always going to be Warner and Rogers. 3-4 Smith and Clarke. 6 was always going to be the allrounder, 7 the Wk. So his potential spot was at 5 and simply whilst he underwhelmed in the India series Voges and S.Marsh scored runs and at a better average than Burns and as such deserved their selection in the squad.

He was a better option than Shane Watson at least....and I'd back Burns scoring a run over Clarke anyway!

So they're actually playing in a different country all together? Why aren't they playing in Dublin or Cork?

Because Ireland's Captain, William Porterfield, and another five of the players in their side today (Paul Stirling, Craig Young, Andy McBrine, Stuart Thompson, Gary Wilson) are actually from Northern Ireland.

Furthermore, from Wikipedia:

The Ireland cricket team is the cricket team representing all of Ireland.

It's a misnomer that their side is just representing the Republic of Ireland.

See you need to start thinking logically and not based on who you like as a player. You did it over the summer with Boyce and you're doing it here also.

  • Firstly, had Burns performed against India we wouldn't be having this discussion, he'd have made the squad.
  • Secondly, Watson is irrelevant in the discussion because it was he and M.Marsh competing for one spot, number 6, and with our attack there's no way we'd have gone in without an allrounder.
  • Thirdly, When was the last time we dropped a captain? Let alone for someone who lost his place in the side for not doing enough, ala Burns and especially given the fragility and test inexperience of the middle order. No way was he going to get Clarke's spot on the tour. The only possible is S.Marsh but again Marsh got in the squad by playing well for W.A whilst Burns underwhelmed for Australia.
