Good on you Adelaide Crows for drafting probably the most underrated player in the draft. He was a steel at 14.

Jake has never been under rated. He was one of the highest rated kids in that draft. Prior to doing his knee he was going to be a top 5 pick. Clubs do so much due diligence its amazing. Jake would have had both his knees scanned, the bad one and the good, and the recuiters would have taken them to specialists to get reports on what his knees are like.
When you do a knee so young there is a risk that you have dodgy knees, and no club wants to end up with another Daniel Menzel.
So there may have been some concern shown by the medical reports on his knees, and that was to blame for him slipping. Our medical reports may have said there was nothing to worry about, who knows.
But bottom line, the kid was always considered a gun and if he hadnt of done his knee we would not have him today. Kinda worked for us really.

Super effort by our recruiting team, calculated risk grabbing a top 3 off a knee for a paltry pick 14. Well done Jake, just shows what talent can do on the field even if the body isn't deemed to be quite ready. Got a chance and basically just gunned it from the get go. Going to have a super career, he's the type of character that you'd be signing up for 5 years.

I was one who wished we'd gone with a mid with our first rounder. The fact that he looks like an absolute JET certainly softens the blow somewhat...

Has not looked out of place for a second since his debut. Even the times he's been out-marked by a bigger body he almost exudes an "Enjoy it while you can" vibe. A bit like how we used to beat GWS...

In his first radio interview on 5aa he sounded like a seasoned pro. Seemed like an AFL player in waiting. A few posters on here predicted that he'd play a significant number games in Year 1. A skinny key position player coming off a reco... don't key position players take longer?

What was really noticeable on the weekend was that many players struggled to read the ball in the tricky wind whereas Jake was constantly in the right place. Similarly some players struggled to hit targets in the difficult conditions but Lever hit almost every target.

Ogilvie had big shoes to fill but with Cameron and Lever he's already got two players that will almost be in our Best 10 going in to next season. And did it without single figure draft picks. Very pleasing.

When I saw him in his first competitive game for the Crows I think, a trial v West Adelaide, he was barking orders, giving instruction, supporting team mates.

This was a man who just turned 19, without a single game on his record, off a knee reco, confident enough to lead. I knew he was going to be good from there.

And even younger than Lever. I think he was 17 when he made his AFL debut? Some pretty handy key forwards getting around in Hart's era too.
