Aish part of our future

THERE'S no panic just yet but if James Aish hasn't re-signed by round 16, the alarm bells will be ringing for the Brisbane Lions, captain Tom Rockliff says.

Aish is contracted until the end of this season but speculation about the South Australian's future has intensified, with Adelaide reportedly among the leading suitors.

Of the seven Lions drafted in 2013, the 19-year-old is the only yet to re-sign.

I look forward to posting approximately another 125 stories about Aish's contract before the end of the season.

Pretty straight forward comments from Rocky who has demonstrated the he is... Well a straight forward bloke. Does this means every Lions player who is interviewed this year will be asked about Aish and another article will appear whatever the player says? Only Aish can comment on what he is going to do and maybe he hasn't made up his mind yet. Examining the nuisance on ever quote from other players tells us nothing.

James Aish yet to sign a new contract with Brisbane Lions and now finds himself in reserves

Aish’s demotion to the reserves has nothing to do with the drawn-out contract negotiations.

The 19-year-old had arguably his worst game at the top level against Collingwood in Round 1, accumulating 13 disposals with four contested possessions, three clangers, one mark, two tackles, one free kick conceded and one goal assist.

The Lions match committee felt O’Brien deserved his chance ahead of Aish who will line-up against Southport in the NEAFL match at Palm Beach today after training with the Brisbane reserves at Coorparoo.

The message from Brisbane is clear to Aish and all the players on the list – perform or perish regardless of reputation.

Aish was expected to meet with manager Liam Pickering in Melbourne this weekend to discuss Brisbane’s offer which is understood to be $1.2 million over three seasons.

Decided to just quote the sections that were the closest to actual new news/speculation.

Brisbane Lions midfielder James Aish has responded to his senior axing with a dominant NEAFL performance

BRISBANE midfielder James Aish responded to his axing from the senior side for Sunday’s clash with North Melbourne with a strong showing for the Lions reserves in the NEAFL on Saturday.

Aish was Brisbane’s best in the eight-point loss to Southport at Palm Beach, showcasing the array of skills that made him the No.7 pick at the 2013 draft.

The 19-year-old won plenty of the ball around the ground, took several strong marks, kicked a goal and won a number of centre clearances while coming in for extra attention from the Sharks.

Brisbane Lions player James Aish just needs to play good footy

Regardless of his decision about staying in Brisbane or returning to Adelaide - and I have doubts as to whether his mind is made up one way or another - he is still a Lion and obviously a talented young player.

I just want to see the pressure lifted from him so he can get back to playing good footy.

A second year player moving back to the reserves in the second week of the season is not usually a huge deal.

King James (he's South Australian footy royalty don't you know) is just like any other first round pick and as susceptible to the well documented pitfalls of a second season.
