*Did a quick search and only found a stadium board thread so thought I'd start a thread and it can be merged or moved later*

But sounds like some good news for the saints, fans and players a like don't like the Seaford base
Good news for cricket fans who want to watch cricket at a more suitable cricket venue
Good news for Rich and Carlton fans who want their round 1 blockbuster at the MCG
Good news for all footy fans who want early season games at the MCG

Bad news for the residents of Seaford

Sounds like a bad idea to me, $10m isn't going to do a whole lot to a run down stadium. GC's 18k-23.5k stadium redevelopment cost $126m.

Also, training there while Cricket Victoria moves games from the MCG to there... are they going to cancel pre-season training? From our experience having a cricket team train/play at the same oval isn't a workable solution, we had to pay to relocate the NMCC to another oval a few streets away. At least they were more willing than the Essendon lawn bowlers despite them being older than the footy club. :p

A great move by all involved.Lets hope they get on with it and its not just a pre election promise by Napthine that goes on the back burner later.

This is brilliant, I'm absolutely rapt!

It will most likely cost 30- 40 million because the basic infrastructure is already there.

If you read the story St Kilda will be accros the road at their own facilities and use the ground for training during the winter and share an elite indoor training facility with Cricket Victoria. Its a win win situation for everyone esp St Kilda FC and the AFL for it frees up the MCG earlier for matches Plus the MCC to have to lose money opening the MCG for very small crowds at the Sheffied Shield games..

So this leaves Hawthorn as the only Club dedicated to any outer suburban area of Melbourne, unless we include Geelong?

And who are the most successful Victorian Based Clubs of the past few years?

Tullamarine isn't outer Melbourne?

Hang on. Aren't St Kilda on the bones of their arse, and didn't they just spend millions on the Seaford base?

So who is paying for this?

And how much money did Taxpayers put in for Tullamarine?
You'll note we're not moving out of there just after arriving. Which was his point.

Taxpayers money pays for most clubs facilities in some way. But getting it paid for and built and then moving out a few years later because you don't like it. That's stupid. And that's his point.

OK How much tax payers money has gone into Windy Hill over the years?

Where do St Kilda train in summer if cricket's being played there?

Also don't make the season longer FFS. It's too long as it is.

yep. longer seasons don't necessarily means good ones.

if the AFL were confident in the game and didn't * around with it so much and make it easy for potential crowds to stay at home, then it wouldn't have a case of FOMO which is seems to be developing it after the last couple of seasons of disillusionment and ******* around with the weekend schedule.

they look to the fact that the A-league, Super Rugby, and the NRL are all on in early March and feel a bit left out. we've seen this year that starting the season early and dragging out with split rounds and double byes makes it a bit tedious.

Except that isn't what is happening. The Saints had nothing to do with the proposal of this relocation. It is purely AFL and Cricket Vic driven and we are just along for the ride. Seaford isn't going to be knocked down and they are going to find new tenants to use the facilities there so it isn't a waste of anyones money.

Seriously what a ****in balls up... move out to Seaford and spend a bomb of ratepayers, taxpayers and the AFLs money, there 5 mins and decide they don't like it, go back to the Junction Oval and do it all again.

What an incredible waste of money on all fronts

and members money?

who's going to pay for the remainder of the lease out at frankston? is the AFL going to come to rescue for poor mgmt?

many clubs are leveraging off their 'heritage within the league' to make poor decisions and know the AFL will save them in the end.

A new tenant to use elite training facilities?

How many sporting clubs does Melbourne have?
