Hey KM.
Any recent news on who the Hawks may be keenest on with our first two picks other than Dayle Garlett who seems to be all the talk recently?

If Cripps and Garlett were still available at 24 who would be most likely to be taken of the two?
Both seem a great fit for the Hawks other than Garletts well documented off field issues and I have fingers and toes crossed for Cripps at 24 and Garlett at 38.

Not long now :)

Regarding GWS and Taylor

"The only issue I have with Taylor’s height is in his tackling game, he doesn’t provide enough tackling pressure and when he does he’s not strong enough to make those tackles stick."

Given GWS have so many kids who cant make tackles stick, why do you think they will cop that and pick Taylor anyway ?

Plus I am sort of getting sick of the Swans using our first round pick (usually around the 12-18 mark) to get a player with lots of potential but a heart the size of a pea and no work ethic. Jones seems almost like a safe bet compared to a lot of our previous first round pick players.

Here are our previous first round selections

2012 (pick 22) - Dean Towers
2011 (pick 21 F/S) - Tom Mitchell
2010 (pick 21) - Jed Lamb
2009 (Pick 6 and pick 14) - Gary Rohan, Lewis Jetta
2008 (pick 12) - Lewis Johnston
2007 (pick 11) - Patrick Viszpremi
2006 (pick 15) - Daniel O'Keefe

Realistically there are 3 success stories there and one of those success stories was a F/S selection so our recruiters couldn't stuff it up.

Sydney don't like those first round selections do they?

Lots of outsidish/speculative type picks amongst that group. It's not a recipee for success early draft.
Hero selections as many of these were don't often work out so well.

I'd just recommend to Sydney to go for a well performed guy who can win his own ball.

Acres if there would be my choice. He'll win it inside/outside. He has the numbers to back it up. But they're not empty numbers with all his touches meaningful.
Get him and in my view you won't have to think low risk with a Jones.

Crouch and L.Taylor are others who are exceptionally low risk guys but I'm not seeing either necessarily if there as the perfect fits in Sydney's situation.

Hawthorn are said to like Garlett.

At 24 I'd expect most likely the best available midfielder but it will depend entirely on who's there. Once you get into the 20s there is just no predicting exactly who will go to which team. A good result would be getting two picks right in the 20s so I won't make any outlandish predictions.
If a Dunstan/Dumont slide then they're two I imagine would be high on Hawthorn's list.

Cripps is entirely possible if Carlton, St Kilda and Adelaide overlook him and is another I'd imagine Hawthorn strongly consider.

It has been interested to hear Taylor so heavily linked to GWS by the media.

I assume he's viewed as the best available talent at that stage and in the mind of the GWS recruiters a relative bargain selection at that stage.

He's year one ready to play and with few immediate high production midfielders, and few quality ones who can accumulate and also have excellent pace and ability to take on the game he's something slightly but not completely different to what GWS already have.

Thing is, there isnt anyone in this draft who is different to who GWS have.

Boyd is Patton. Kelly is Scully.

Taylor is a poor mans Whitfield.

Acres is Coniglio. Crouch is Greene. And so on.

Taylor and Whitfield are very different.

Same story with Acres and Coniglio.

Taylor is an explosive small while Whitfield is more an endurance specialist and less short.

Acres is a taller and stronger body than Coniglio. While both can play midfield and push forward Acres is a stronger mark and Coniglio has the more explosive pace.

Kelly is a more skilled Scully and if anything is more similar to Whitfield.

If you want someone different that Bontempelli guy is very unique at his height with what he can do.

Billings for need as against Kelly the guy you fall in love with is the call for pick 2.

Our second bick will be Best Player Available.

The third will get interesting, as Best Available Ruck vs BPA ... I think we like Phillips and Downie, but not enough to go for a non-ruck option.

Gardiner doesnt fill me with love, given Frost, Corr and so on.

I love the look of Zak Jones. Hard at it, good disposal and looks like a potential gun inside midfielder like his brother. Got a bit of toe about him aswell.

If there was one player I could liken him too it would be Vlastuin.

Would love us to take him at pick 15 if he's still available.

Knightmare surely Billy Hartung will not go past the top 20? He looks like an absolute jet. Already has a solid tank, pace to burn. What are the knocks on him? He looks good with ball in hand aswell, especially when disposing of the footy at his pace.

Hey KM,

How would you feel if Collingwood took Zac Jones at pick 10? I'm quite keen on his potential as a Sydney supporter. Really seems to be developing as a two way mid with a future. Like him for Sydney.
Any concerning deficiencies in your opinion?

We have the same view Dan87. I want Zak Jones at pick 15 if he's still available. Kid looks like a gun and can see him playing as an inside midfielder/half back flanker. Solid 200+ games at any club. Also would love Billy Hartung at our pick. Would add some speed and bite off the half back.

I GOT MY MAN :D. Welcome Zaky!

Better start praying one of the more fancied players slides to Richmond then or he won't be there for you to pick. :p

Knightmare just on Nathan Freeman this bloke plays identical to Luke Shuey IMO. Has that initial burst of speed and same kicking technique. Thoughts?

I think it's the other way around. They'll take Sheed if Lennon and the other highly rated ones are gone.

Ok. If McCarthy goes top 10, there should still be 2 highly rated ones around for Richmond & Carlton (at 12 & 13). All different combinations of the top 11 need McCarthy in it for 2 of Salem, Lennon, Freeman, Sheed etc to be around at 12 & 13.

Yeah, Freeman could get to us. Sheed should be there for Carlton.

it's only km personal opinion about those players don't get to upset about it , it's also a phantom draft which means it's not actually who your club is going to pick if you haven't realised , i think the saints didnt trade stanley either because they would of struggled to get more then a 4th rounder for him
I wasn't upset, I was just asking him what I thought were some valid questions, like whether he really expects someone who is 202cm and clearly a "project player" (having been taken relatively low in his draft and not expected to do much in his first few years) to have had a breakout season by the age of 20, even though by that age he'd hardly been out on the park at any level since arriving at his club. He suggested he should have and I disagreed and pointed out why. Similar story with the rest of my post.

No s**t Sherlock. We are allowed to discuss it though, are we not? Is that not what BF is for? Discussing footy and actually giving everyone a clearer picture of what everyone has been doing and what their strengths and weaknesses are?

Great work Knightmare - Have you heard of Sam Heavyside (2014 Draft)? This season in the TAC he played 10 games and was in the best 10 times!
