Universal Love LETS BE POSITIVE

I agree!!! We are .3% off 6th and people want to write the season off. It's not the time now to solely focus on "playing the kids" ... we should be going all out to win games and finish as high as we can!

Used to love how we had such a strong home ground advantage at Football Park all through the 90's. Let's get that kind of home ground advantage back at AO, start by sending these Cats back to Moggies Creek ... how appropriate.

We were very close to season over at 3qt on Saturday. Come Sunday we have the chance to start our season. We need to be aiming for a top 6 finish and win a final. Keep playing like we are and we will be lucky to finish 8th and get smashed week 1. I'm hopeful its option A.

Unfortunately Adelaide Oval seems to be becoming one of the easiest road trips in the AFL. :( So much for the 'Portress', on that note. We took care of that myth nicely. Maybe part of the lack of home ground advantage is the fact that the Oval is neither a particularly long nor a particularly wide ground.

On the other hand, to keep in with the spirit of this thread, Phil has managed to coach us to 7-5 despite our skills and injuries. In time, there is a lot of reason to hope.

What if we need to do the former to achieve the latter?

We need to replace our worst kicks between the arcs.

Its not magic that Luke Beveridge is doing so well with the dogs and the 3rd youngest side in the comp. He hasn't baulked at dropping name players in order to pick youngsters in better form or who can best implement his game plan. He's thrown conservative 'safe' selections out the window and put a meritocracy in place and his players have responded, playing out of their skins with real pressure for spots and honest accountability amongst the playing group.

Phil could take a leaf out of his book about being brave and how fortune favours you when you are.

The mic has been dropped. I remember a short period of time when Chief tried a like system that had 15 different variables and I'd have pressed them all for this post.

Think part of the issue may also be falling behind by 3-4 goals right out of the chute. Takes the crowd right out of the game from the get go. Hawthorn executed that plan to perfection couple weeks ago. Simply can not continue to do that at home and there is no reason for it to happen as much as it has recently.

Well, yes. It is quite amazing that we are 7-5 given some (10/12 games) of the s**t football the Crows have dished up. It isn't all bad, but our field and goal kicking are shithouse, our starts are s**t and we are carrying too many players who are slow and can't kick.

There is a common theme in there somewhere.

Keeping with the thread title. Yes we aren't playing great footy, skills are average and like Bosley said were 3% of 6th one game away from a top 4! Imagine what we could be like if we start executing. The future is very bright!!!

I see some good things with our organisation and forward play structure. Also despite our skills issue, turnovers are hurting us less. This is due to our defensive organisation/structure.

Where ever we finish this year is a bonus. We need another season or maybe two to train/trade/draft more skillfull players. Once we do this we will be a very good side.

Spikes are not sustainable. We have been through that and it failed. The club is on the right course now for sustained success.

We should be positive. The negativity on other threads stems from a lack of trust in the club and to be honest its the clubs fault to a point however some fans needs to bite the bullet and accept things operate differently now and just give the club 12 months to find its feet under the new regime.

Having said all that

Positives:
- Phil is developing the kids and isn't afraid to bring in new blood. Lever, CEY, Kelly, Cameron etc are having games pumped into them which is awesome.
- The side is competitive even though our skill level is disgraceful.
- We are 7-5 with 10 games left. We are 6 wins away from finals and have a favourable run home with 6 winnable games.

Well I loved the game on Sunday v Brisbane. brisbane ahead by quite a few at 3/4 time. Last year we would have been pumped by 30+ in the last. Instead we booted 6 to zip. Reminds me a little of watching the cats a while back. They would be playing terrible all game and look gone. But they would play a quarter of footy and win.

The last quarter was definitely a big positive. Sure, Brisbane were out on their feet but we executed our skills well when fatigued and made the most of our advantage on the scoreboard when the pressure was really on. Huge tick in a games with some massive crosses for the first 3 quarters.

Also on the weekend Hawthorn didn't overtake Essendon until the 3rd quarter and the Dogs very nearly got upset again by St Kilda. Any team can be beaten by a lower team if they are a bit off their game. We were A LOT off our game and still found a way to win.

We are 7-5. Last year we would have lost to Carlton and Brisbane and we'd have been 5-7.

"But we beat Brisbane by 100 last year". Yes, but we had a good day last year. If Brisbane had turned up at all, and we hadn't, and we were 24 points down at 3QT, we'd have lost it.

Our improvement is a fact. A lot of people on this board are scarred and those cuts run deep. But we've got a coach who seems to be doing something right and wins are coming despite our atrocious skills. Once they improve, and they will, then we'll be a good team.

IMO much of this has to do with our poor starts and taking the crowd out of the equation early. This was the tactic of visiting teams to footy park as early as our first season and is tried and true. Even more impetus (as if it was needed) for us to get on top of our lax starts to games.
