Can't quite understand those calling for a ruck. No need.

Witts is already better in patches than a half of bottom sides rucks. Then we have a high draft pick with potential in Grundy as the number 2.

A ruck is not a need.

We need:

• We need a gun KPP (forward or back)
• A skillful crumber who can kick both to teammates and goals.
• A skillful outside mid with pace.

What do we all think we should be aiming towards in the next few years come draft time? I think it is fair to say we have a bevvy of defenders and with Scharenberg to be the next backline Marshall among Frost, Langdon, Keefe, Williams, Brown, Sinclair etc. Grundy, Witts, Kennedy, Beams, Steele, Adams, Freeman, Pendles in the midfield. I think it's fair to say we should really start to build our forward line around Darcy Moore, Elliot and Karnesiz. Although Trav will play out his career at Collingwood. I think we need to look at another big hulking forward to recruit as a bottom ager and develop over the next 3 to 4 years while Reid and Trav are tracking to the 30 mark. Must leave Fasolo as a permanent forward. He is a better player then Gunston but clearly not coached or utilized as well. I think he should be played deep out the square. It seems to our forward line is starting to become a bit Richmond like with one key target and dribs and drabs in between. Can't compare to Goodes, Tippett, Buddy. Gunston, Roughhead, Bruest. Pavlich, Mayne, Ballentyne. No more trading for middle aged players like White or Young unless they add some serious consistent substance to our side ala Goddard, Nicky Dal. We seriously struggle forward of centre since 2011 while dominating or breaking even with forward 50 entries over that period.

Doesn't diminish the need to develop longer term options. Moore provides one, an additional one wouldn't hurt.

Add Moore, then I still think we need another KPP but given the current balance of our list would be happy to go best available. Pace and skills a definite requirement.

We've got Cox coming on board next season as well and that combined with the improvement in Gault this year makes me think we've got the ruck stocks we need. Maybe a "break glass in case of dire emergency" late rookie pick.

Sorry but I would take Gunston over Fasolo any day of the week. Not sure how Fas has been poorly coached. He has been injured for a long while now.

I don't think he can win enough of his ball, he is not a good contested mark and doesn't find to much of it at ground level. He relies on his teammates getting the fast break and using the ball well. When Hawthorn eventually falls Gunston will be one of the first guys out of the side

I would have to disagree with you on Gunston. I think he is a terrific player and would be more than happy to have him in our forward line. He is also a deadly accurate kick from goal at most distances.

Yes he is a good kick but apart from that what else does he do, he is an effective player and I think he could work well in our forward line but put him in a side where he would have to win his own ball and he would be playing in the VFL

Then when Moore is entering consistant AFL footballing AGE in 4-5 years for a KPF who is going to offside him a 33 yo Cloke or 30-31 year old Reid who already gets numerous soft tissue problems?

People way over play Ben Reid's injury troubles I think since 2009 he has played 20+ games a year at AFL or VFL level obviously he has had a bad year but it is not that bad. Why could Cloke not still be playing at 33, he is not a player the relies on speed, he is not going to get any weaker. We have young Gault on our list who is starting to develop. Saying all that I would love to see us draft Sam Weideman he is bottom aged this year but by all reports will be a very good player

Disagree. Watched Gunston a lot at Adelaide when they were s**t and he stood out like a sore thumb. Dude has a elite set shot and great hands.

People way over play Ben Reid's injury troubles I think since 2009 he has played 20+ games a year at AFL or VFL level obviously he has had a bad year but it is not that bad. Why could Cloke not still be playing at 33, he is not a player the relies on speed, he is not going to get any weaker. We have young Gault on our list who is starting to develop. Saying all that I would love to see us draft Sam Weideman he is bottom aged this year but by all reports will be a very good player

He has had Quad and Calf injuries through his career. Don't confuse a history of soft tissue injuries with calling him made of glass or that he is constantly injured (which I wasn't saying). As he ages he will more prone to it and already having issues usually worsens over time.

Cloke may well be playing at 33 but not at his optimum and not far off retirement.

Gault...Is a long way off and fighting just to be retained on the list...at all.

You need options and relying on trading in a decent KPF is not what we should be aiming to do.

It doesn't hurt to have a developing FF or CHF on the list in VFL and you don't need to always have low 1st rounder or nothing either.

Weideman from what I have read is tracking for early first rounder next year, so we may be in for some pain if we want to get him.

I still think our midfield is number 1 priority. From our best team a few years ago we need replacements for Swan(coming to the end or permanent forward), Ball and Thomas as elite midfielders.

Dwyer, J.Thomas(some disagree), Blair and a couple of others will never be elite midfielders and we just aren't deep enough in the midfield at the moment. The odds are also against all of Adams, Freeman and Kennedy becoming elite. Our defence is full of young talent as is our forward line with Moore coming in and Elliot, Fasolo, Karnezis, Witts/Grundy, Broomy.
