Agreed but Bridgey didn't just wake up one year and become successful. It happens over time and on the back of good recruiting and hard work. Serp got close 2 years ago and beat Bridgey twice throughout year and should have beat them in the first final. Then come the granny and with a little help from an umpire got very close. They win that game and we aren't having this discussion. They recruit well the following year and they're away again but to bridgeys credit they step up again.

Fair assessment it was a border line job in 2013 and PHill were right there that year with Bridgey as well with some tight and tough games between the two. First final might have even gone overtime from memory? Bridgey stepped it up last year and blew it away but I think you will find Clubs will have realised the situation now and will push harder to become stronger. With the calibre of players that Pyramid announced before Christmas they should be one side that can dish it up too them. Expect a more competitive year.

For starters stop making s**t appointments for senior coaches. Go and appoint a quality player that will bring some with him and build on it. It won't happen in one year but ....

yep

these days you have to get a coach who brings 7-8 players with him[/QUOTE]

What do the Inglewoods of the world do though?
They keep plugging away. The wheel turns, albeit apparently slowly at the moment. Early 2000's Inglewood were beating Bridgewater by 20+ goals. It does seem a bit harder now though, as there appears to be more players taking the 'easy' option of joining already successful teams. Hence we have the LVFNL with a 5 time premier, NCFL with a 4 time premier and HDFNL with a 4 time premier? (Or something like that). Certainly not the only reason for their success but not as many willing to help re-build a struggling team. All the lower teams can do is get themselves right off the field and create a culture which hopefully can attract quality players.

It's a tough one Roota. I would never tell a club/committee how to run their ship but it comes down to a lot of hard work by mainly volunteers & I am no way suggesting teams like Inglewood are'nt blessed with these. Social clubs, sponsorship committees, memberships, general fundraising gives u the $ to put together a backbone of coaches & recruits. The key is for the Club to commit to a 3 or 4 year plan to get from the bottom & pushing for a finals spot. Success only brings supporters & members = more $. It has been done before. Where were Bridgewater & Heathcote before their successes?

Haha, he must have had a different trading post than poor old Inglewood then.

What happened at Bridgewater is the same as Calivil, it happens over about a 18 - 25 year period. It's when the kids of ex players or local grow up and all turn out to be guns. Probably started with Kurt Ashman going out as a mid 20's player then Chalky certainly got it going with the bunch of recruits he bought with him, but ultimately it is the backbone of players with a previous association with the club that has given them the advantage over clubs like Serp.

At Calivil it was the Maxteds, Fremantle, Demeo, Ralphs, that were all locals or had an association with Calivil and came back and bang the dynasty is formed. Pyramid have been stiff because they had good locals but couldn't get the job done at the time that it mattered most.

It's impossible to build a position of strength without local input and some luck in breeding. So for places like Mitiamo, Inglewood, Serpentine it's only going to get harder, they are drafting in players all the time because the core locals that play for the club and not money aren't there or if they are there there isn't enough of them or they aren't good enough. YCW is another in that same boat.

Lockington the same in the HDFL, Golden Square was a large contingent of kids that came through the square juniors. North Bendigo should benefit from it but have taken a different tact.

Your right Franky they have lots of local footballers Bridgey and a large contingent of them have played in with us at Sandhurst at one point in time or another and they once theyve started winning flags theyve dribbled back there and thats helped them continued their run on. No doubt they might be like a Mt.Pleasant was for a very long time but it doesnt mean another Club cant pop up and get it together sometime soon to grab a flag off them.

Money breeds success you dipstick........it's sad but true. Check Wedderburn, Kerang, Bridgewater, Square, Mt Pleasant, etc etc.......P.Hill are kiddin themselves......that's why the move is on to merge with Boort.......get two chokers together with their cheque books and stick their chests out.......unfortunately there will be no locals there to see it cos they will all be at the next club with the cheque book but who don't see value in rewarding the local guys who have stuck with them for years.....country footy is f....d mate......

Sounds like everyone is hung up on Bridgey, they clearly have a good culture and success breeds success, it also helps when you have a budget bigger than most clubs.
On another issue in the LVFL, the board has decided on having an over age policy for the U18's. So we could potentially have a 19 year old playing against a 13 year old. Why do we need an over age policy? Surely if your that bad at 19 you should find another way to be involved in footy, trainer, administrator. Footy isn't for everyone. I also believe there should be a minimum age limit to play U18's. If we want to attract kids to play in a good U18 comp we can't have little kids playing in it. I think 14 should be the minimum age limit.

Few clearences coming through now.. Anyone got any info? See YC have a lot of ins.. Any quality?

Murray looks to have been really busy at YCW and have added plenty of depth from the BFL ones that I see there might help them more in year 2 or 3 in Murray tenture as they develop.

Fleming was a good target at the Flat last year so he could be a good gain for Marong. Interesting excuse by the Flat Coach on the addy website that Luke Lagoon had gone to Mitiamo because his sister plays netball there!!!

You think he's having a bit of a dig at him Fly?

Bit of a kick in the guys to Calivil with the Fleming lads going to Marong. Although they aren't top liners, be nice to have a few targets in a milestone year

Bit rough to say Pyramid Hill are chokers, unfortunately for them whenever they have put together a strong side there has always been that 1 team that was a bit better, its easy to use the locals argument but honestly who wants to live out at Pyramid Hill? there is nothing out there. everyone bangs on about them spending big dollars but they have to pay overs cause u have to drive past every other club in the league to get there. The locals out there work extremely hard and are as loyal as they come.
The main thing is unlike a few other clubs that spend up for a year or 2 chasing a flag but then bottom out the Hill have shown that how they do it is sustainable, no point having a healthy bank balance at the end of the year if you are not playing finals.
