Major expansion of the school chaplaincy program

You need to live in a nicer area, there are two within walking distance of mine, one is the alumni of Julia Gillard, both have great grounds, happy looking kids and high academic standards. I would unhesitatingly send any children I had to either of them.

I live in a very nice area.

Why is it we always hear the education system moaning about funds needed to fix schools then?

And your example does not show parents had any financial input into those schools upkeep.

You have kids, you pay for them.

Simple.

Look Gus, despite your bluster, this High Court ruling goes to the power of the Federal executive directing funds to certain areas without the proper legislation.

Technically, it is not a ruling based upon the secularism of the state, however it could be construed as such in this particular instance. In fact, this ruling may have far broader implications.

You are trying to drive this, yet again, to your peculiar mix of libertarianism being tied at the hip with your religion.

It makes for truly bizarre reading.

I don't care about the religion. It's non compulsary for a school to use it. It is up to the Principal is it not?

I'm after the cheap option. If the chaplaincy program is cheaper than the social worker option then let's go with the cheap option.

It is my understanding that if a school Principal wanted to go away from the Chaplaincy program they would have to source the funding themselves.

It was a "take it or leave it" program by the government and was clearly skewed toward the overwhelming numbers of fairy worshippers in Cabinet.

It was wrong, it was not secular and it was dogmatic in its approach.

The HC made the correct decision and I hope that it goes further in the future.

We could put all state school teachers on below minimum wage, that would help.

Perfect.

I'm all for $0 being spent on such things. If parents want a social worker or a chaplain at their kids school they can reach into their pockets and make it happen.

Or the parents could contribute more to their state schools financial bottom lines.

And that attitude makes you a fool.

We have kids committing suicide at an alarming rate, and that issue can be traced back, in a lot of cases, to their home life issues.

The need for properly trained professional counsellors, (which Chaplains are NOT, they are only youth workers with a faith bent), is higher than it ever was.

So once again we get back to the state having to look after other peoples kids and paying through the nose for it.

Do you really think if some halfwits have 4 kids that it should be up to you or anyone else to contribute to these idiots life style choices?

So many people are simply taking the piss out of people like you who will come running to their defence to argue the state needs to take care of all of their problems.

That makes you the sucker.

The state pays for your kids "private" school education as well.

No, I pay yearly fees, contribute taxes and financially contribute to fund raising projects.

Don't try and pretend I don't pay a far higher % into my childrens education costs than a lot of the state school parasites.

That's a totally different issue.

You have to suck up the fact that governments DO fund public education from your taxes or rescind your passport and go back to NI.

A hell of a lot of people here are deeply troubled by a government policy that is skewed firmly towards religion.

Can you honestly say that a Chaplain does not attempt to fix the emotional needs of a troubled kid with the need to fill their "spirituality" by proselytising about their chosen sky fairy?

Don't be so bloody naive.

If the churches didn't see this as a wonderful chance to preach to the young and troubled, they wouldn't have lobbied so hard to receive the funding and contracts in the first place.

Reckon Kevin Andrews can include this in his work for the dole scheme. Your a f**kin' genius Gustavo

Yep, that's pretty much it.

Just as a lot of people are deeply troubled about parties whose policies are skewed towards nanny state socialism.

I have no idea how every single Chaplian operates. Some might be oustanding at their job. Just as some social workers might be utterly woeful at theirs.

That is up to the Principal to decide who is the best candidate for their school if they go down such a path.

In the end a lot of these people and their sky fairy beliefs are doing a ******* shitload more for kids than say someone like well, you.
