Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 search continues

How come they didn't find the Air France 447 black box with more subs permanently positioned in the Atlantic. The crash happened about 600 kms from the Brazilian coast. It took 2 years to find the wreckage and there was no foul play so they had a decent idea where it went down.

They've got a ping!

Search field has just narrowed massively, shouldn't be long now until they find the plane. Not sure what else the ping could be. Would have thought that the frequency used would be specific to flight recorders but you never know what else could be at the bottom of the Indian Ocean I guess.

A few pings according to Angus Houston.

The planned search area has been reduced over the past few days and now covers 75,000 square kilometres.

Air Chief Marshal Houston says he is confident the search is in the right area.

"So I think we're looking in the right area, but I'm not prepared to confirm anything until such time as somebody lays eyes on the wreckage," he said.

Air Chief Marshal Houston said the Ocean Shield would be looking to pick up more transmissions which would help to better pinpoint where the signal was coming from.

This is my theory. Plane takes off, all is normal. Quick fire flare up in the utensil pit. Which has happened in the past with the 777. Pilots try and put it out panicking ( fire quickly destroys the dash/controls ) do their best to control a fire. Plane goes off radar..........communications are burnt out. Pilots turn the plane to try and land, by this time things way out of control. Smoke inhalation for the pilots. Plane has already done a U turn and no pilots to control. Modern technology dictates this plane flys its its own path until it runs out of fuel and crashes into the Indian Ocean.

You can get rid of the fire in my post, but i'm betting there has been a mechanical failure.

These guys got lucky !!

No one can tell me that we wont find this plane. Man kind is a very, very smart race. We are looking out beyond Earth, just because its our right to do this. We will find something. Stephan Hawking demands there is a reason for everything. Not just us, but everything. This missing plane is just a silly conclusion of a fateful disaster.

We choose to go to the moon, not because its easy. Because its hard. We need to ask hard questions.

Mary Celeste, Harold Holt...some things are meant to remain mystery. Maybe this is one of them

So...have they found the black box?

THERE are unconfirmed reports that the black box flight recorder from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been found.

Perth radio station 6PR tweeted the report, citing aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who is in China, is giving a pre-planned press conference at 2pm AEST.

Mr Thomas indicated the PM would address the latest MH370 developments then.

Surely they'd be able to get a scientist to calculate a possible location using ocean current's tides etc...etc...

The ocean is the lifeblood of Earth, covering more than 70 percent of the planet's surface, driving weather, regulating temperature, and ultimately supporting all living organisms. Throughout history, the ocean has been a vital source of sustenance, transport, commerce, growth, and inspiration.

Yet for all of our reliance on the ocean, 95 percent of this realm remains unexplored, unseen by human eyes.

Very difficult ... here's a map of where currents could have carried debris over time. All it tells is that it is likely the original search area could be around the mark.

MH370: Part number on plane wreckage confirms debris is from Boeing 777, Malaysian official says

A part number on a piece of aircraft wreckage found in the Indian Ocean confirms the object is from a Boeing 777, a Malaysian transport official has said.

"From the part number, it is confirmed that it is from a Boeing 777 aircraft. This information is from MAS (Malaysia Airlines). They have informed me," deputy transport minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said. The two-metre-long piece of wreckage was found by people cleaning up a beach on La Reunion, a small island east of Madagascar, on Wednesday.

A Boeing 777 is the same model aircraft as Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which vanished 16 months ago with 239 people aboard. Australian search authorities earlier said they were "increasingly confident" the debris was from missing flight MH370.

MH370: Part number on plane wreckage confirms debris is from Boeing 777, Malaysian official says

MH370 is the only missing 777 and no other one has been reported as crashed, from a report I heard this morning

There was some expert last year who predicted debris would eventually wash up there or there abouts apparently.

A plane door has been found on a different part of Reunion Island to where they found the wing flap. They dont know if its related to MH370 yet.

It'd be some coincidence if all these parts of a 777, and luggage, washing up where an expert predicted they could eventually wash up, aren't from MH370, when it's the only known in service Boeing 777 passenger aircraft to have gone missing and yet to be found.
