Malthouse sacked - Interim coach John Barker

Richmond have 6 Friday night games for the rest of the year.

There next 4 games are the Dream Time on a Saturday night then Freo, West Coast and Sydney all on Friday nights (with a bye in there).

If they produce bad results in the next month then Stevo will be all over Hardwick.

Such a campaigner.

Makes Slobbo Robbo look like a thoughtful intelligent journalist.

The problem with Carlton is the same problem down at Essendon.

Rich coterie members calling the shots behind the scenes. That is no way to run a healthy football club.

Bruce Matheison has Carlton by the balls.

Best thing North ever did was remove/reduce their influence from the club.

If the Carlton Crew remove their money, the club is in real trouble.

Enjoyed seeing Goddard put slobbo in his place on 360 the other night.
This was a total witch hunt by the media nothing more.

Rubbish and rubbish.

Goddard looked the fool last night and couldn't back it up when robbo challenged him.

Malthouse got sacked because he has taken the team and club backwards and then publicly belittled.everyone above.him... The press just covered the train wreck... They far from caused it.

Imagine if the media had of campaigned for Carlton to give him extension, championed his feats etc. No chance he would have been sacked. The media certainly played a part in this to an extent.
Will be an interesting university case study for a media subject.

I wasn't aware that Goodes ever had a persona in the game beyond "star player/champion" prior to the racism row.
Long before that - which I suspect was part of why a 15yo made some poor taunt at him - he has been maligned as a sniper, stager, whinger and really just an unpopular player (e.g soft frees, etc)
I've got no beef with him. He is a champ of the game, I hate any player being booed, and his legacy in the game is incredible.
I was just pointing out he isn't booed because of his race.
Rioli, hill, Jetta - none were booed. Buddy - different circumstances though still poor taste
Goodes just isn't liked.
He is a star player. Some are liked (e.g lenny, Rob Harvey,)
Some aren't. It's part of afl barracking

Good on Mick for kicking Carlton in the balls on his final day. Shame that Trigg isn't Carlton though.

Any chance of getting the cream of the coaching crop gone. Battler to be appointed.. More fun times at Blue land.

Was stupid to get him in the first place. Arrogant, bullshit artist that took on the boundary line and removing his pawns from the field.. Was always going to last.

Fair enough, if you say so. I never heard a word of it prior to 2013, though.

Where is Marc Murphy? Why is Judd talking to the media. Who is the ******* captain at that club?

You do know that was footage of Judd going to his car and he choose to make a statement. Murphy has fronted up, he is not one to shy away. He was on Triple M one the weekend facing a barrage of questions from Garry Lyon, Danny Frawley and Brian Taylor, just so you know

Another candidate rules himself out. Starting to look like last man standing.

FORMER Geelong premiership mentor Mark Thompson has joined West Coast premiership coach John Worsfold in ruling himself out as a candidate to take over at Carlton.

Smacks more of keeping his own name in the limelight.

You would need to be extremely ego driven to WANT the Carlton coaching gig, it's a coaching career killer.

Since when was Thompson even a realistic candidate? And why are these seasoned coaches coming out in the press and ruling themselves out when it's incredibly likely that Carlton are going to go with a young assistant anyway?

It's like going into a car auction and announcing that you want a cheap, small car, and the old guy at the back of the room stands up and yells "Well you can't have my Rolls Royce and that's FINAL!" and storms out of the room.

The funny thing about this quote is that it goes to show how bad Carlton have been for a long time.

There are plenty of people on here saying it's the media's fault and that they got Mick the sack. Truth is, that the results and the standard of play got Mick the sack. How many threads on this site were there bemoaning the shitefulness of Friday night football because Carlton were playing? Last year was the same. None of that was media driven.

Then there is Mick's quote about not being able to see where the losses were to come from which was against what the board wanted and was corrected a couple of weeks after. This is what got the media interested in Carlton. It was Mick and Carlton who put blood in the water. No surprise when the sharks start circling.

Then there was the very public spat, with Jihad Mick strapping a bomb vest on and taking out the Carlton board, Trigg and Eddie Betts with him.

Smells fishy the MM story of Betts and Trigg.

Malthouse is a coach of player suppression to a certain extent. Likes to share the spoils so to speak. Isn't against growing a plodder in the right humidity to share in his sunlight.

Betts, however you call it is exciting but will never win a flag.

He's the same type of player as Lindsay Thomas but a much better bloke and more talented.

Neither player will have ultimate success. The small, unreliable full forward show pony isn't flag material and Malthouse knew this.

Hard to blame MM for trying to escape the mediocrity cycle but throwing Trigg under the bus is more than likely conman, scorned Malthouse at play.

When you think about it, he's one of the most arrogant, overrated bullshit artists around.

Sleeping with enemy, especially desperate enemy is stupidity.

Carlton fkd up hiring him and deserve to slowly pluck their balls out of their stomach. He set that club back years, and will smugly take his place in the media in denial about it all.

Well done.

The emoticon should have been a hint to the flippancy. That said Thompson's name has been mentioned many times in despatches. Why would you not consider a coach with a proven record of building a successful team? Only dimwits would have excluded him from at least consideration.
