Two absolute guns in the making, taken in the 2013 draft and both considered to be the prototype next gen midfielder with their height, athleticism and talented ball handling. In a comp where these type of players are becoming sort after this poll is to determine:
1) Which player will have the better individual career? Determined by BnF, Brownlow, AFL awards and AFL Player rankings.
2) Which player would you rather in your team to help win a premiership? Determined by your individual subjective assessments for example they maybe that one is more of a big game player than the other, better composed, heart and soul etc.
I can see AFL greatness in these two players, lets enjoy the ride.

Bonts is better in a lot of ways. I'd almost say every way except contested bali which is still a strength of his. Having said that Cripps will probably have more disposals in his career which according to most footy fans will equate to better. Pity the aim of the game isn't to get the ball. There's a bit more to it

Bontempelli is having some year. Player Ratings have him scoring in the top 20 players in his second year. (top 60 overall ranking)

Infact with 264 points for the year (16 games x 16.5 average)

He would be just outside the top ten

For mine they're not really the same kind of player beyond being big mids.

Cripps is a powerful ball/clearance winner specialist with exceptional awareness/vision who's height is increasingly making him a marking threat, but lacks the ability to finish in front of the big sticks at this stage (could improve).

Whereas the Bont certainly has the finishing skills and at the moment certainly better outside game, more natural athlete and probably a more rounded player overall.

Cripps is certainly bigger than 190cm nowadays though (bout 194cm).

T2B_ Whilst it's fairly obvious due to the flashy nature of Bont's outside game that he is a damaging receiver and finisher if given the chance, his skills as an inside extractor of the football from a contest to outside runners by hand are excellent. He is one of the best handballers from those situations I have seen. Unlike some smaller players that burrow in a contest and dig the handball out, Bontempelli uses his extreme reach to both win the ball and then once in his posession, like most modern mids he holds his arms free, and utilises his lengthy arms again by firing the handball away whilst the ball is held above his shoulders. It's quite remarkable and he has the vision, quick thinking and execution to deliver the ball to players in about a 270 degree arc from his position.
Yeah Cripps looks much bigger than 190. At 194cm that would make him bigger than Bontempelli who is 193cm. Even though we haven't seen much of it yet, Cripps does have forward guile. I'd expect as Carlton get more depth through the midfield that the luxury to rest him forward will be utilised and we will see him demonstrate atAFL level what he did at the Northern Blues a couple of times last year kicking 3 against Coburg and 2 against Williamstown.

Yeah I wasn't meaning to downplay Bont's inside game or imply he's only an outside player, it's just as a neutral (to Dogs games) I've only mostly seen the outside flashy impressive stuff he does and haven't the chance to notice the inside work, whereas obviously being a Carlton fan I notice nearly everything Cripps does every week.

So perhaps they're not so different, but I do think of Cripps as sort of being a specialist kind of player whereas Bont is a "do everything" kind of player. That being the case, a lot of people would probably take Bont.

Though I imagine Dogs fans would always take Bont and Carlton fans Cripps :p it's the way these things work but Cripps is exactly (finally) the kind of player we desperately needed and his emergence perfectly timed with Judd going down.

I remember reading about Ted Hopkins (founder of champion data) and how he found that in the advent of fantasy football, fans became more impressed and focused on say Dane swan's 40 possessions than the goals he kicked.

All about dream team scores. Never mind the value of possessions

Cripps has gained ground, but I'd still prefer Bontempelli due to his X factor, goal kicking ability and capacity to run through the lines. For these reasons I'd also prefer Treloar and Dylan Shiel types over Cripps. That said, Cripps' ability to get 'first touch' around the stoppages is insane.

A better poll would be Cripps versus Wines.
