They gave him as long as possible, but he obviously didn't make it, because he's been left out.

Fragile batting lineup for WA. Beaton played some handy innings for the Renegades in last season's BBL but that hardly fills me with confidence. Rimmington, Tye & Mackin fighting for that final bowling spot is handy though.

A lot riding on Klinger. Harris should be pretty solid at the top too. That middle order could be a disaster though.

Where's Cosgrove? Given we dumped Botha for him and now don't have a decent all rounder it makes it look even more dumb.

1. Raphael
2. Head
3. Ferguson
4. Cooper
5. Ross
6. Ludeman
7. Zampa
8. Mennie
9. Richardson
10. Worrall/Winter
11. Putland

Ludeman might open pushing Head down to 5.

That is a long tail, can Zampa and Mennie hold the bat? And I think Ludeman opened last Matador Cup IIRC?

It's either that or have Head and Andrews or Lehmann bowl the last 10 overs. They might back a strong top 6 to score enough runs.

I'd imagine that WA would line up something like below. As others have mentioned, the batting does look weak. However, it's full of those with ability and with potential to step up given an opportunity with players such as Harris, Beaton, Agar and Turner.

Marcus Harris
Michael Klinger
Jon Wells / William Bosisto
Tom Beaton
Ashton Turner
Sam Whiteman
Ashton Agar
Andrew Tye / Nathan Rimmington
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Jason Behrendorff
Joel Paris / Simon Mackin

Compared to last year the state squads look a lot stronger (especially New South Wales and Victoria).

Interesting to see just how inexperienced WA are compared to the other states. Both Pattinson and Forrest have played as many ODIs as the entire WA squad. Really looking forward to this.
Also interesting to see just how many of the young quicks are called Right Arm Fast in their cricinfo profiles

Torz , do you know if the matches involving the CA XI will have List A status?

I hope Will Bosisto gets a go for WA. Liked the look of him in the U19 setup.

and here lies the problem of an CA XI instead of an ACT team. There's been no attempt to make it balanced, age wise, and the team will likely be demolished.
Cricket Australia national talent manager Greg Chappell said the CA XI concept was designed to give high-potential players from around the country more opportunity to play at state level.

“The idea behind it was to make sure the next generation of cricketers were going to get the opportunities they need to keep their development going,’’ Chappell said.

“What we know is that young crickets get better playing cricket not in the nets and in camps and all of those sort of things.

“There will be some familiar names from having played a little bit of first class cricket or a little bit of 50-over cricket for their state previously

Fragile batting lineup for WA. Beaton played some handy innings for the Renegades in last season's BBL but that hardly fills me with confidence. Rimmington, Tye & Mackin fighting for that final bowling spot is handy though.

Very handy. Keeping fingers crossed that Paris is fit and stays fit. He looks special.
