Fact is McEvoy is a terrible terrible tap ruckman and is horrible as a 'ruckman' continually getting outbodied etc. His main asset is he can take a grab... but is to unagile for forward line...

Happy with the deal. Signs were showing already this year that Hickey was going to be the number one ruck. Hickey and McEvoy just aren't the kind of ruckmen who can form a great partnership, both are number one rucks. We get a Dumont/Dunstan/Acres/slider and Savage who is a massive upgrade on Milera and the like. Hawks get a genuine number one ruck for a pick that won't help in their current window and a back up player. Win win.

Fringe player and a late first rounder for a top 10 pick you've put years and years into, and he's one of the more unique ruckman in the comp, not great in the hitouts, but a force around the ground.

Putting alot of pressure on what looked like a pretty green Tom Hickey tbh.

Brissie said they wanted that pick 17, so if Saints pony it up - they end up with Longer and Savage for McEvoy which is pretty good business. By the time the are competitive again, Longer should be mature.

Happy with this trade. McEvoy will work well as #1 ruck for the next 5 years, allowing Hale to spend more time forward as he ages.

Forward line with Coleman medallist Roughead, 21 year old Gunston who kicked 11 goals in finals and Hale as strong contested mark. Excellent pickup for Hawks.

Savage will be good for Saints. Not a 'Clarkson type' but can play.

St.Kilda clearly believe there is no point having a good but not great ruckmen if your mids suck. Savage is decent and a top 20 pick is a good chance of being decent. Puts depth in their midfield.

Think this is a great pick up for the Hawks, they lose a fringer player not in their best 22, and a first rounder that will be replaced with the Buddy pick, McEvoy will give them great service for the next 8 years.

If the Saints pick up Longer as well that does look OK. McEveoy for Longer and Savage. Savage helps straight away, Longer grows up with the rest of the young team.

Got Hickey is a fantastic ruck and with Stanley as the forward ruck it looks a great trade again. Piecre will be a gun in two years time keep a eye out.

McEvoy is one of the more overrated players in the league. Not a good ruckman, and talk about his around the ground work is not inline with his actual performance.

After reading this, the Saints position makes sense as McEvoy would take the Kosi/2nd ruck role (and be better) Clearly Watters is going back to ground zero.
