Just goes to show how bad AFL commentators are... you watch an NFL or Baseball game and the specialist commentators just roll of all the stats and highlight each teams key areas. They do almost everything better and hopefully the AFL can learn from them.
Shhhhhhh! - they will start planning yet another junket to head over there!

It's because they keep getting ex-players instead of proper commentators. Little wonder when Huddo is the best commentator as he has been properly trained in it. Not sure how much training Lynch, Loyd have done.

I am not a fan of Lynch, it is almost like he is trying to be so unbiased that he actually talks up the other team more and saying each free kick we get is lucky.

Lynchy has gone from being my hero to the biggest crawler at Fox Footy. Watching him simper up to the likes of Dunstall makes me nauseous.

I pray that Joel Patfull never gets into the media. I couldn't bear to see him become a brown-noser.

Hopefully Jonathan Brown stays true and keeps telling it like it is.

Thanks for the link - I really missed the fancast this year so great to have something to listen to again.

Really impressed with Steph's interview also, really mature and measured responses. Definitely worth a listen if you have a spare 15-30 mins.

BRISBANE have started preliminary talks with star midfielders Daniel Rich and Jack Redden to keep them out of the clutches of free agency raiders.

Both Rich and Redden are not off-contract until the end of the 2016 season when they could hit the open market if unsigned by the Lions.

But such is their importance to Brisbane’s future, the club is making moves to ensure there is no bidding war at the end of next year by locking in early contract extensions.

Rich and Redden made their senior debuts in 2009 and are at the core of the club’s rebuild alongside skipper Tom Rockliff.

Lions CEO Greg Swann said the club had to be active in player retention.

“We are constantly looking at where our list is at,’’ Swann said.

“We are making overtures to the relevant player managers for the blokes who are up this year, next year and even the year after that.’’

A host of Lions player are coming off contract at the end of 2016 including the likes of Dayne Zorko, Stef Martin, Josh Green, Lewis Taylor, Darcy Gardiner, Sam Mayes, Marco Paparone, Justin Clarke and Ryan Lester.

Matthew Leuenberger, Jed Adcock and James Aish headline the players off-contract at the end of this season. Rohan Bewick, Ryan Harwood, Brent Staker and Mitch Golby are also at the end of their current deals.

Brisbane is also looking at extending the deals of first-year players and Lions Academy graduates Harris Andrews and Liam Dawson.

Meanwhile, St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt is expected to play against the Lions at the Gabba this Sunday.

Riewoldt suffered a serious concussion in Round 7 and only has to get through training today (thurs) to be named in the side.

Brisbane swingman Daniel McStay will also have a fitness test at training today.

McStay suffered a compound fracture of his finger in the loss to Essendon last weekend.

The joint has been flushed out and is stable.

If the pain is manageable, he is a chance to play against the Saints.

Have just posted in 2015 trade discussion thread....has more info re this post.

Malthouse will be on AFL360 tonight, 8.30 special time I think. Anyway, hoping it will be asked of Mick about the meeting of Carlton with Aish...true or not.

Can someone tweet Robbo or Whateley and get them to ask him. Pretty please:)

Edit:...too late, just read the interview has been taped already.:(

If Robbo is part of the interview, you would like to think that the question will be incorporated at some stage. He would love to give one back to Pickers!!

So let's get this straight- if it's the Lions losing 5 players, that's natural forces at work. Just the way things are. Can't be helped. Anyway, it's only Brisbane.

And if Aish meets Carlton on the Gold Coast a few days before we play there, then that's just a coincidence. Or whatever. Nothing to see here, move right along. Just fuggetaboudit.

But when we let it be known that we are after a couple of KPP's, then all hell breaks loose. Just not right. Can't wait for Eddius Maximus to join the caravan.

Hammo has written an article in today's paper virtually begging Dixon to stay at the Suns. Says that if he stays and they win a flag, he will be elevated to legendary status in Qld footy, alongside Dunstall, Riewoldt and Voss.

You'd think that axe he's been grinding against us would be well and truly worn down now.

Three different heads, five different handles, but still the same axe!
