Hopefully someone can answer this question:

I'm looking at buying tickets for the Collingwood vs Hawthorn game in June. Does anyone know which bays you can sit in with a General Admission ticket?

I think your best bet will be to keep an eye out on the MCG Facebook and Twitter feeds during the week of that game for information about what bays will be general admission as they usually only announce it sometime during the week of the match. Going by past matches for those teams, if it isn't fully ticketed then general admission usually gets you standing room or top level behind the goals.

Is my memory faulting me, or did the pre-Olympic Stand development have a fence at the top? Like no concrete wall at the top of the stand, just a fence? I swear I remember looking over and just about crumbling from the vertigo.

This picture is great. 1990 grand final and they still got 98,000 to the game. Not sure where they fit them all!

NRL State of Origin II to be played at the 'G next year :)

http://www.mcg.org.au/News/News/2014/June/State of Origin 2015.aspx

Apparently the NRL has a policy of one game outside NSW/Qld every 3 years. Which works out because the last one was at Etihad in 2012.

It will be the first time Origin has been played at the MCG in 18 years.

The first rugby league State of Origin match at the MCG was played on June 8, 1994, attracting a then record league crowd in Australia of 87,161.

Having a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Origin_results_and_statistics, they've played 7 times in Victoria.
1990 @ Olympic Park, 25,000 (capacity on Wiki listed as less than 20,000)
1994 @ MCG, 87,161
1995 @ MCG, 52,994
1997 @ MCG, 25,105 (which seems small but was on par with the other two matches that year)
2006 @ Etihad, 54,833
2009 @ Etihad, 50,967
2012 @ Etihad, 56,021

They're on good form I think to get 70,000 to this.

Tickets to the matches at Etihad were expensive and sold out too quickly for me to even consider attending, but I'll definitely be going next year. The home of sport adds another string to its bow.

Andrew had a go at the current MCG/AFL support from the State Government:
In the climate of falling attendances and rising match-day costs for fans, he (Andrew Demetriou) took aim at the Victorian Government after failing to invest in the MCG:
Reeling off the figures that other state governments have given to major stadium works, approximately $50 million to the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), the stadium's operators, seems to have been not enough.
"Here in Melbourne, it generates billions of dollars of economic activity, we pay $6.5 million to the MCC and I can tell you that would go a long way to help our Victorian clubs if we weren't paying it," he said.
"Whoever wins the next election, step up and support the MCC because it would help our competition."

Why the AFL would want the government to increase funding to the MCC is beyond me with the ordinary footy fan & club members treated as 2nd class citizens at the MCG. The funding should go thru the AFL so the AFL have the attention of the MCC, as equal partners not just another stadium client.

A lot better than watching from row KK in the Southern Stand, level 4 :p

Incidentally I've sat in both during grand finals.

2002 grand final I was at the very top of the Southern in the pocket and 2010 grand final replay I was front of the Southern pretty much smack bang on centre-wing. I'd choose the front seats over the very top seats personally.

They should really try for the Adelaide Oval

Would love.
To go along with an A-League game or two, and I was really hoping for a crack at the International Rules (show off the ground like they did with Metricon a few years back).

Agreed. It's more what stadia/governments are willing to pay to get the game than it is how willing the NRL are to give it to them!
