Between the Big Sticks
AFL Club
West Coast
At the start of every Thunderbirds home game, they could do the old Thunderbirds countdown from the TV Show on the video screen, featuring all the players and the coach.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Thunderbirds are go!

And then they all come out onto AO and through the banner with their song playing..."

"We're the POWER of South Australia..."

1Brisbane Saints.png

Brisbane Saints
Team colours:
  • Maroon (from Brisbane)
  • White (from St Kilda)
  • Black (from St Kilda)
The Saints head north and form the Brisbane Saints. The jumper design essentially follows the Brisbane Lions theory of jumper design: take an existing jumper and replace the red with maroon to make it more Queensland-like. Thus, the home and clash jumpers are simply St Kilda's home and clash jumpers with maroon instead of red. The preseason jumper is based on St Kilda's 2014 preseason jumper, which features a stickman creating the middle section of the tripanel. However, it also has ties to Brisbane's current jumper: two panels of colour separated by an oversized mascot.
2St Kilda Lions.png

St Kilda Lions
Team colours:
  • Red (from St Kilda, and also Fitzroy)
  • Yellow (from Brisbane, and also WW1 St Kilda and Pura Light Start St Kilda)
  • Black (from St Kilda)
  • White (from St Kilda)
The Lions head to St Kilda and form the St Kilda Lions. The home jumper replaces the white on St Kilda's tripanel with Brisbane's yellow. The result is similar to St Kilda's jumper during World War 1. The white clash jumper turns the tripanel into a Fitzroy-style yoke and features a halo-wearing lion (appropriated from Costa). The preseason jumper is predominantly red - the common colour between St Kilda and the Lions - and is largely based on the inaugural Brisbane Lions jumper.
3Brisbane Panthers.png

Brisbane Panthers
Team colours:
  • Maroon (from Brisbane)
  • White (from St Kilda)
  • Black (from St Kilda)
In the mid-1940s, the St Kilda Football Club was known as the Panthers. The Panther mascot returns, replacing another big cat in Brisbane's Lion. The home jumper is St Kilda's tripanel, with maroon instead of red. The clash jumper is based on St Kilda's pre-VFL candy stripe jumper. The preseason jumper is inspired by the inaugural Brisbane Lions jumper, with a panther instead of a lion.
4St Kilda Monks.png

St Kilda Monks
Team colours:
  • Maroon (from Brisbane)
  • Yellow (from Brisbane, and also anti-German and pro-milk St Kilda)
  • Black (from St Kilda)
From 1938 to 1956, Fitzroy were known as the Gorillas. The simian nature of this mascot combined with the religious leanings of St Kilda's mascot, results in saintly monkeys or the St Kilda Monks. The home and clash jumpers are based on St Kilda's jumper from 1919-22. Similarly, vee designs have also been worn by Fitzroy (1912-1941) and Brisbane (1992-96). The preseason jumper lowers the vee and adds a cross, and the result is similar to St Kilda's 1997-2001 home jumper.
Coming soon, the western double feature: West Coast and Western Bulldogs...

1Western Eagles.png

Western Eagles
Team colours:
  • Royal blue (from both teams)
  • Yellow (from West Coast)
  • White (from Western Bulldogs)
The Eagles fly to Footscray and form the Western Eagles. The home and clash jumper simply replace the red of the Bulldogs' jumpers with West Coast's yellow. The preseason jumper is inspired by Footscray's 1995 preseason jumper, which looks somewhat like West Coast's wings.

2West Coast Bulldogs.png

West Coast Bulldogs
Team colours:
  • Royal blue (from both teams)
  • Red (from Western Bulldogs)
  • White (from Western Bulldogs)
The Western Bulldogs head even more westerly and become the West Coast Bulldogs. All of the jumpers are inspired by West Coast's iconic wings, with a bulldog instead of an eagle.

3Eagles.png

Western Eagles
Team colours:
  • Royal blue (from both teams)
  • White (from Western Bulldogs)
  • Ochre (from West Coast, also the Bulldogs' Origin Energy jumper, and also almost the combination of the remaining colours of both teams: red and yellow)
The Western Eagles home jumper looks like a Bulldogs jumper left in the sun, with the red stripe faded to orange. The clash jumper is all ochre. The preseason jumper is inspired by the Bulldogs' jumper from 1997-2011, which featured the Bulldog logo; instead, the dog has been replaced by an eagle.

4West Coast Beagles.png

West Coast Beagles
Team colours:
  • Navy blue (from West Coast, and also 1944-45 Footscray)
  • White (from Western Bulldogs)
  • Ochre (from West Coast, Origin Energy, and combining red and yellow)
Combining the B from Bulldogs with Eagles results in the West Coast Beagles, which has a canine mascot similar to Footscray. The set of jumpers is inspired by West Coast's current jumpers. The home jumper is based on West Coast's current home jumper. The away jumper is based on West Coast's wings, albeit navy so that the colour scheme remains consistent. The clash jumper is inspired by West Coast's clash.

1Fremantle Swans.png

Fremantle Swans
Team colours:
  • Red (from Sydney, and also pre-2011 Fremantle)
  • White (from both teams)
The Swans fly west and form the Fremantle Swans, a fitting mascot for a West Australian team. The home and clash jumpers are Fremantle jumpers in Sydney colours. Notably, the clash jumper is almost identical to the original Fremantle Football Club jumper, as worn by Freo in the 2003-06 Heritage Rounds. The preseason jumper doesn't neglect Fremantle's dockside location, replacing the Opera House on Sydney's jumper with an anchor.

2Sydney Dockers.png

Sydney Dockers
Team colours:
  • Purple (from Fremantle)
  • White (from both teams)
The Dockers arrive in the Harbour City to form the Sydney Dockers. When the Swans moved from South Melbourne to Sydney, an Opera House silhouette was introduced to the red vee. The same principle applies with the Sydney Dockers' home jumper - adding the Opera House to Fremantle's triple vee. The clash jumper is simply a recoloured Sydney jumper. The preseason jumper sees the return of Fremantle's red and green.

3South Melbourne Dockers.png

South Melbourne Dockers
Team colours:
  • Red (from Sydney, and also pre-2011 Fremantle)
  • Purple (from Fremantle)
  • White (from both teams)
Football returns to South Melbourne with the South Melbourne Dockers. The home jumper features South Melbourne's red veeon a purple background. The away jumper swaps the colours, and the white clash jumper recolours the vee purple.

Soon: Geelong & Richmond...
