Malthouse is the final puzzle of the previous administration shenanigans

Swann in particular is fairly cluey on bricks and mortar finance but he has been nothing but a joke since bringing all his mates from Collingwood to the club.

I don't have any particular like nor dislike for Malthouse.. played for Richmond, coached Collingwood.

On your bike.

Agree! Like him or loathe him Malthouse deserves better than to be hung out to dry.
If you want to make a decision during the bye week, fine. But why publicly announce it? It just ramps up speculation 1000%, puts a heap of pressure on the players, and is immensely unfair on Mick.

Absolutely pathetic.

There is no good way to do this.

When was the last time a coach was sacked and the media and the public said "that was well handled".

If they came out during the week of the bye and said they'd made the decision to bring forward the contract talks and so forth to this week, it would've been somewhat logical. Announcing it in advance is stupid.

When Ross is done at Freo, whether that is in 2 years or 7 years, every club should be after him.

If he has won a premiership in that time then yes - most clubs should be after him. He's been coaching for a long time though and I wouldn't put down all of Fremantle's success to Lyon. To his credit he has become more offensive this year.

So getting sides to the last two weeks of September consistently is meaningless?

Who are you, Damian Barrett?

Ross has never been a rebuild coach he's always had the list ready for him. Ross biggest hurdle is to see if he can do it where it matters

Sando was sacked without anyone having much idea and we were described as a rabble. Bluey went through over a month of innuendo and that was more acceptable. The press extract their pound of flesh either way;

Option 1. Sack coach, nobody knew, no papers sold, histeria, rabble, club imploding. Papers selling.

Option 2. Steadily ramp up the rhetoric, sells papers, coach sacked, meh, was inevitable, we've been reporting it for weeks.

One way or another, the 'news' outlets will sell their papers/Internet etc. They will not miss out.

Th original quote said every club. Really? Would Hawthorn? I doubt it. So yeah, he's a good coach - but there's several around who are just as good and/or have proven more. He's chosen his jobs well though - i'll give him that.

Yep, Freo were loaded when he took over. Carlton aren't going to appeal to him atm IMO.

The media have it marked in their diary every year to target the most vulnerable looking coach early in the season and destabilize his situation as much as possible in the hope they can have him removed.

Must say they've done a brilliant job with Mick. But Mick had made many media enemies along the journey and revenge is a dish best served cold.

No doubt during the break Carlton will announce Mick won't be continuing next season. Then it's probably a matter of who wilts first - him or the club.

A change of coach will do nothing when you have the same pea hearted players spudding it up each week.

History shows the first game after the coach is sacked usually produces an inspired performance and often a win.

But you are correct regarding the players. They have stopped playing for Malthouse, and if the club has given him two weeks to turn things around, as rumoured, the players are unlikely to come to the party when it seems obvious they want him gone.

After hearing Mick Malthouse's interview with Tim Watson on SEN this morning, it's hard to see him lasting in the job more than a couple of days longer. Even a hastily convened press conference and sacking today mightn't be out of the question.

Extraordinary interview. Basically telling the board to sack him now.

Giving away the Trigg/Betts thing makes his position untenable, I'd have thought.
