Reid's playing CHB, but I'll let you off for that. Goodes is on nowhere near that much money. Not sure how Buddy and Tippet deals are structured, but if the Swans backended Buddy's deal it could be an amazing piece of business considering how much salary caps can rise over a few years with new TV deals.

Amazingly the AFL randomly increased the salary cap by $300k a few months after the Swans signed Buddy... wonder who benefitted the most out of that?

Yeah, not bad. Try this. The AFL are retrospectively applying a fixed cap on football department spending. No tax. Just a fixed cap. Any breach now brings on a trade ban.

That'd be easily solved - Clarko would take 50% pay cut for two years allowing us to get the football spending in order

Sydney shouldn't have a cap problem - should be plenty of Swans who've been overpaid by the AFL for years happy to take a pay cut for the good of the team

When unable to engage in adult like debate and mount an effective counter argument, dismiss someone elses opinion, take moral high ground and tell people what they think. Sorry for being a slow learner at this internet thingy.

Let me know when an adult starts debating and we can discuss.

It's all okay, the AFL have investigated themselves and have done nothing wrong.

['AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said the circumstances of Franklin’s move from Hawthorn to the Swans had been "the subject of a detailed examination, with formal interviews with the key parties involved in his move under the Free Agency Rules".']

nothing-to-see-here.gif

['"The AFL was not involved in any dealings that player Franklin and his management may have had with any other club in the competition as a potential move for him under the Free Agency Rules, before the player made his final decision to accept an offer from the Sydney Swans."']

* final decision being back during the grand final in 2012

Can't believe anyone is surprised that the AFL openly rig the competition.

What's funny about this story is we're now supposed to believe Sydney are somehow victims of this competition rigging!

Did he cut sick at the Swans because they got Buddy and they will be super strong or did he cut sick because they finally got Sydney going and they now put all their eggs in one basket and hope d to be helped out again if the deal goes pair shape. Etc etc

Fitzy is no Sepp Blatter or Roger Goodell.

Also no way will Fitzpatrick go just because Richard 'no ethics' Soulless blabbed about a minor incident that happened 18 months ago.

Most of the clubs, bar Essendon and Sydney seem happy with The Fitzinator, wouldn't imagine going anytime soon.

I have a hypothetical for you:

Say you're a decent Victorian player with a young family looking to get into the housing market.

Sydney come to you and offer you $400k/yr to move away from home for 3 seasons plus the standard $40k COLA.

Geelong also approach you and offer you $410k/yr for 3 seasons.

The median house price in Geelong is $450k. The price of the same sized house in a similar proximity in Sydney is $1.1 million. Assuming an interest rate of 5%, on which offer will you be financially better off at the end of your contract?

Don't worry, Im not expecting an answer anytime soon.

So Geelong is a city outside Melbourne that is inland and semi industrial. Hence housing is cheaper there.

And you compare this to Bondi?

How much is housing in Sydney's Western suburbs where it is a darn site cheaper than Bondi?

So can GWS players choose to buy a similar / comparable house in the Sydney's Western Suburbs at a similar price to Geelong?

No one is forcing Swans players to live in blue chip suburbs. Go buy a nice place in suburbs similar to Geelong players do,inland and semi industrial.

And then there's that pesky little argument about Perth rent and prices being not much lower or equal to the cost of living in Sydney........................but WA teams don't get any COLA handouts.

I'm just looking forward to watching how the Swans travel without the welfare handouts from the AFL.:thumbsu:

FFS who in their right mind would live in Geelong?

Learn your facts mate. The AFL haven't helped the swans out for years.

The point you have completely omitted is that Sydney played within the rules given to them by the AFL and have been punished for no reason, if you can't see why that's an issue then you're not the brightest
Live by special rules, die by special rules. Cry me a river.

History shows Colless is a tool. he wouldn't have many friends in club land.

History shows he was a fantastic chairman and leader of his football club. Always went into bat for his club. Led the Swans as chairman for almost two decades (can't remember exact years but lots). I dare say he has the respect of those that matter.

Sound familiar?
