Injury Mitch Duncan - foot fracture/ minor Achilles surgery

After a few stellar weeks, Mitch went down last night with a serious, as described at the time, foot injury.

No news from the club yet, but it made me think at best of Caddy's foot injury - a broken foot bone - of a few years ago. I refuse to use the N word in relation to his foot yet - and even my assertion is purely guess work.

Lets hope for the best.

Go Catters

if it is that N word used to describe a certain bone in the foot, he won't play again this year, and I sure as hell hope he wouldn't be risked.
After what we have seen happen to players with similar issues, simply no need to rush this at all as he's a major part of our future ambitions.

I am not going to lie to though, I'm very nervous for Duncan. It seems our football club have not handled injuries as well as a few other clubs in recent times.

I think everyone is refreshing the news feed to hear official word from the club. I'd imagine there will be an official word at some point this afternoon.

It's probably important not to pigeon hole all 'N' words as one and the same.

Sure, there's been some severe cases in terms of Egan, Trengove, Linc McCarthy etc.

But there's also been a number of players who've had Nav stress fractures and made returns I.e. Alex fasolo, kristian jacksh, Claye Beams all returned to afl footy and haven't had repeats.

Fingers crossed it's not fracture, or worst case a metatarsal fracture which could be 4-6 weeks.

Apart from Selwood, there probably was not a player we could be made worse off by losing. He had just hit the rich vein of form we required.

Early word is its not the n word and more like Caddy - circa 8 weeks:

Would out for the year be a surprise? I said at the time of Egan... do not do what happened with Stoneham...and they did.

If they is any doubt..ANY DOUBT..... See you next year.

Its not as if we are in the mix we look to be 3rd tier. somewhere between 6-14

stoneham? Are you referring to the broken leg?

As a massive fan of Duncan this one sucks big time.

All the worse because, after a slow start, he was hitting his straps and was, dare I say, closing in on career form.

Sucks to be us right now. :(

When are people going to ignore Larkins?

So he broke it August 13, and was training to be available for September? I'm not questioning your recollection, but that seems absurd.
It was a double fracture and I seem to remember there being some complications along the way as well.

Before the injury Stoneham was an absolute gun.

In Round 21, 1994, Geelong’s Barry Stoneham broke his fibula. A plate was inserted to hasten his recovery. A month after the break, Stoneham was training in a failed comeback to play in the finals

‘Because they tried to get me back really quickly, they put a plate in it to try to make a speedy recovery,’ Stoneham said.
The decision was wrong. Training was painful. He couldn’t walk afterwards. As his team-mates won the preliminary final, Stoneham’s body was rejecting the metal plate screwed to the bone. The infection was aggressive, so the plate had to come out. When it was removed, the infection had gnawed at the bone, further delaying his recovery.

Thread title had me thinking of this

Let's hope it's only a short term injury for Duncan. His last few weeks have been sensational.

Who knows with foot injuries - i heard Ken Hinkley on the radio before their game last week against WCE - discussing Jared Polecs ( a super important player for them) foot injury - the week prior he played as the sub for Pt Ad - they then sent him to a specialist in Victoria - and then sent him to another specialist in NSW to get another opinion - then the club decided that they will rest him for approx 6-8 weeks

I hope it's not the N word. My wife broke her navicular in her left foot 12 years ago playing Netball. She never played again and to this day she still has problems with her foot, especially in colder weather. I remember when Egan did his foot and when it came out that he did the navi, she commented that she didn't think he'd ever play again. I know that other players have come back from navicular complications before, but if it's a broken navicular, you can write off Duncan's 2015 at an absolutely best case scenario.

Geez it's hard to stay positive at times. The footy gods have brought us back to earth real quick after 2007/09/11

Unfortunate name for the thread. Any chance of an edit on that Daz?

Cat of Ages and I had our binocs on the bench when Mitch came off and they were examining him. Hard to say from 150 metres, but they seemed to be focussing on the underside of his foot, the part of the arch closest to the big toe. From my 30 seconds of anatomy class on the web, maybe more metatarsal and than navicular, but who the hell knows.
