Mumbai Hit By a Series of Attacks

Of course - After all this is all finished it will be interesting to watch the fallout as India looks toward Pakistan as the hand behind all of this. India will have to either fob this off as a home grown outfit (and who would believe or accept that) or link it to Pakistan. They have already detained two Paki boats they believe where involved in getting the terrorists into the country.

Watch this space for fireworks I reckon.
Bit of a worry considering both countries have nuclear weapons.

Thank god for religion .
If some people weren't so short sighted they would understand that this is not due to religion, it is due to someone hijacking religion to further thier own hatred.

I suppose the gangland murders were due to religion as well?

Mumbai has copped this before though - do you reckon it might be a case of the straw that broke the camel's back?

Quite possibly.

This is not their worst terrorist attack but it is their most visual in terms of the world stage. Going after the Brits and Americans was always going to make it that way and was of course entirely calculated. India will be pissed.

They also arrested a Pakistan national last night I think. And he has confessed how they hijacked a Indian boat and gave them other details. If this does turn out to be Pakistan involvement I wonder what is going to happen. Also they are saying that some of the terrorist are British nationals of Pakistan background.

Are you serious? That is not good news for anyone.

ATF in the Trident Oberoi hotel doing a careful sweep of all floors. 15 floors of the Oberoi are under control, reports the terrorist are shooting at the choppers dropping of commandoes at Narim point.

Sean there were 26 terrorist, they have just released numbers now. At Narim point the hostages have been freed according to reports. But the ATF are being very careful because they think there may be more civilians trapped on the lower levels. Still 2 or 3 terrorist at Narim point. Lots of shooting inside the Narim point building. ATF trying to protect civilians who might still be trapped inside Narim point. But the ATF are saying that the Rabbi and his wife and the guest they had have been rescued.

These guys appear to be pretty well trained, I think 9+ hvae been captured of the 26, but they've killed upwards of 20 ATF police.

The information that I really want to know is how the hell they knew where the head of the ATF was at the time of the attack? Its either a one in a billion lucky occurence, or some very well researched planning.

Yeah this seems more like a military operation. Too well trained for my liking, to take on a Elite ATF squad and kill their Chief Commanding officer just shows how well planned and organized it was. Reports from the train station are saying that witness said these guys were so calm like they were enjoying themselves. They would empty one clip into the crowd, then reload and do it again. Most witnesses said they were very professional as if this had been rehearsed over and over again.

Without getting into conspiracy theory territory, this is why I've always felt there was something off about the Martin Bryant thing. The guy was borderline handicapped, and to have shot the way he did, and plan the attack the way he did, just never sat right with me. he wazs either one of the luckiest shooters of all time, or a patsy.

Sounding more and more like Pakistan gov't involvement or spin from the Indians?

Not sure if its Pakistani government involvement, but it definitely seems like Pakistani people/military are involved. I don't think India would gain much by making anything up at this point. Its more important they get it right and respond with strength.

From the photos of the attackers I have seen, they appear very dark (that isn't a racist observation btw, pigment plays a big part in the caste system).

Hostages rescued from the Oberoi hotel, ATF still doing sweeps of the Oberoi most of the hotel is now under ATF/Back Cats control. Nariman house iis still going down, flash grenades and smoke bombs being used. Lots of choppers circling around Nariman house, a chopper just emptied about 10 rounds into the top floor of the Oberoi hotel.

Not sure how much experience you've had with high powered weapons but there really isn't that much skill required to cause a lot of damage. Point the things in the general direction & it wouldn't be that hard to hit a target the size of a human. What Bryant & these scumbags had in common though is a mental state that we could never really understand. No doubt some significant planning gone into these attacks in Mumbai but I think Bryant was just in the right place at the right time (so to speak) & unfortunately had multiple easy targets with no possible resistence & no forces nearby able to stop him.

I'd be interested to hear any ellaborations you may have on this Bryant theory (something for another thread perhaps)

By the way I have never said anything about a conspiracy etc. I am just telling you what I am reading on the net and watching on Indian TV reports etc. Woohooo pictures coming through of the hostages coming out of the Trident hotel, well done ATF. :thumbsu:

Yep but great news coming through now the hostages being escorted onto the buses etc. I think now the ATF will be trying to capture the terrorist alive? Or will they go in and blow them away?

But Bryant was on the loose for a very long time, should never have lasted that long. Even being able to kill that many people in a confined space should have been difficult in such a short time (under a minute he shot 30 something people and he had like a 95% kill rate).

There was debate over the gun he used too. Witnesses in the broad arrow said he was using the AR15 rifle, but when he was arrested (whilst on fire and screaming "I'm a hostage") they found the carbine model (a gun that was traced back to being handed in at a police station in Melbourne in the 80's). Not to mention the owner of the hotel, who had known Bryant for years, going on record and saying it wasn't him.

Anyway, I'll leave it for another day and another threadm more important things to discuss in this one.

They've already got 9 of them alive, I'd say they will continue with that policy (capture rather than kill if possible).

India won't want to appear as barbarians in this.

Worrying signs as far as Pakistani involvement though:

Sky News has reported that one of the terrorists shouted "Are you aware how many people have been killed in Kashmir? Are you aware how your army has killed Muslims?" and spoke in Urdu with what was described as a Kashmiri accent.

Early on 28 Novemeber, a Hindu newspaper reported that three of the captured terrorists have confessed to being Lashkar-e-Taiba members, with one of them allegedly from Pakistan's Punjab area

According to some Indian news reports, Indian intelligence agencies believed that attackers came by sea to Mumbai from the Pakistani port of Karachi on the ship MV Alpha.[61][62] This led the Indian Navy and coast guard to begin searching ships off India's western coast.[63] The Times of India is reporting that the Indian Coast Guard has seized a ship that was reported missing a few days ago.[64] The fishing boat from Porbandar was reported hijacked on November 14 and it is suspected that it was used by the terrorists to get to the coast at Colaba. The captain of the boat was found dead and several crew members are missing.
