I have come to the decision that I want a new rig, so what better place to get advice and opinions then a footy forum :thumbsu:.

Im going to be cannibalizing some parts from my current build for the new one to save a few bucks, I don't know a lot about this stuff so any input from the community is greatly appreciated.

This is what I have come up with so far.

Motherboard - Asus Z170 pro gaming
GPU - MSI GTX 970 gaming 4gb
CPU - i5 6600k
RAM - Corsair Vengeance low profile 8GB DDR4
SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
HDD - WD caviar blue 1tb (Taken from current build)
PS - cooler master 700w (Taken from current build)
CPU cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Case - NZXT Phantom 410
OS - Windows 10

Any thoughts?

Make sure your RAM is compatible with your new motherboard.

Other than that, everything seems fine. Though I would throw an SSD in there personally

Definitely going to have an SSD I was just not sure what to get, I did a little more research today and the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB looks reasonable
Changed my mind on the RAM to and I think ill get some new DDR4, probably Corsair Vengeance.
Like you said I just need to make sure this all fits on the motherboard.

Edit: And do you think its worth swapping over my HDD or just get a new one?

DDR3 and DDR4 are physically different, so chances are your old RAM won't fit.

You may as well keep using the old hard drive (assuming it's working fine), you can always get another one further down the track

Are there any features in particular you want with the new Intel socket lineup?

Buying LGA1150 saves you around about $100 when considering DDR3 ram and the motherboard (chips cost the same as they are essentially identical)

Now that you mentioned it and and I've done some research, I don't think so.

So maybe something like this.

i5-4460 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/intel-i5-4460-31ghz-4cores-6mb-cache-lga1150

I agree. Unless you're particularly interested in the higher ram speeds and pcie lanes there isn't really much reason to splurge the extra $75-$100 imo
