Since he started coaching Claremont he seems to have spent as many years away from the coaching environment as he has being in the box in some capacity.

1999 – 2000 Claremont FC Senior Coach
****
2005 – 2006 Adelaide Assistant Coach
******
2014 – 2015 West Coast Eagles Stoppages and Structures Coach

2001 – 2004 West Coast Eagles Director - this is an admin role rather than coaching role

2007 Fremantle football department consultant - I assume this was part time and he wasnt in the box often
2009 – 2013 Claremont FC coaching mentor - this looks like some sort or part time role rather than being in the box game day

From the story "He then worked in the oil and gas industry while employed as a coaching consultant to the Fremantle and Claremont football clubs, before returning to West Coast to specialise in strategy, stoppages and structures. "

Its a very usual path in this last 15 years of full time professional footy. Doesnt mean he wont succeed but its very different. Sounds like he has plenty of life experience outside footy which is probably a good thing giving replacing Walsh wont be an easy thing both in terms of on and off the ground issues.

Congratulations to Don, good luck and was always a fan of Pyke the footballer.

He was also on the Board at the Eagles for four years as well. Definitely is a little different than many other candidates.

Yeah I included that in the first line under the current Eagles coaching experience.

very interesting. he basically has one year of experience at AFL level in recent times.

Doesn't have a linkedin so can't even see what oil and gas company he worked for.
