New Brisbane NBL Team

Launceston City Casino competed for one or two seasons, won a flag then left the NBL to achieve bigger and better things.

Yeah that went well!!

Davenport had a team for one season in the 1980s as did Frankston.

Adelaide once had Glenelg and West Adelaide. West won the 1982 premiership, Glenelg lasted for one or two seasons before being replaced by Forestville. Wests left the League and Forestville became Adelaide City (Glenelg were the Tigers and Forestville/Adelaide City were the Eagles). Adelaide City then became.....

The 36ers.

we should reminisce about some of the ways sponsors became common place in team names

canberra canberra times cannons
north melbourne booze less be your best giants
adelaide pura milk 36ers

brisbane fosters bullets
geelong IOOF superdupercats
Australian Smiths Crisps Boomers

Make the Magic "South East Melbourne" and Victoria "North Melbourne.

Just out of interest, the Victoria Giants were a rebranded Victoria Titans, which was the result of the merger between the North Melbourne Giants and the SE Melbourne Magic. SE Melbourne as born out of the Eastside (Nunawading) Spectres and the Southern Mebourne (St Kilda) Saints.

It's all a hypothetical these days but I will play along...

Would only make sense to make it SE Melbourne and North Melbourne in this hypothetical if the sides actually played out in those locations.

"South East Melbourne" was the official name because of the Eastside/South merger being fresh in the 90s, but most people just called them the Melbourne Magic anyway, as "South East" was just an unnecessary mouthful. If the Magic were brought back, I could easily see the "South East" dropped as its no longer needed as a reference. All games at Melbourne Park (Rod Laver/Hisense), sharing the "Melbourne" name with the Tigers.

To keep the "North Melbourne" name, the Giants could play games against non Victorian opponents at The Cage in Parkville (right next to North Melbourne) while playing Victorian opponents and finals at Melbourne Park.

north melb playing at the cage is a good idea.

two teams with melbourne as their city identifier and playing out of the same venue is not something the league will do. they'll insist on some ghey name with SOUTH or HEART

Didn't some of the original NBL clubs in suburban Melbourne in the late 70s play in what were literally just large tin shed/warehouse things that would hold only a couple of hundred patrons?

Eastside Spectres played in Nunawading at the old Rec Centre
Coburg Tigers played at North Coburg then moved to the Glasshouse They still play there at North now.)
St Kilda Saints played at Albert Park Stadium
