Having the HD package gives you the HD Channels
Without the package, yeh you have a box that can give you HD quality, but you can't access any of the seperate HD Channels
So if I get the HD package, will the footy be in HD? It's the only thing that matters to me really

My brother recently got Foxtel (with HD). Says to me "How bloody good does the footy look in HD?!?". I just nodded knowingly.

I want access to my Planner and Title Search online, to be able to add*, view and delete programs.

The IQ3 box is no bigger, I already have the 1TB box.

* already available

I just called and got a self install IQ3 and will be sent out monday, they guy said they are sent from Sydney so thats s**t but i think it should be at my place Wednesday or Thursday. If they were sent from Melb i would get it Tuesday with the area i live. But CBF spending the extra $50 on a pro install to get it 1 day early.

do monthly subs go up with IQ3?

No same monthly cost. just the upgrade fee, its still $25 per box for muti-room with recording.

so basically you're upgrading each of the rooms?
Well just moving boxes around but only 1 upgrade, and keeping by IQ2 and IQHD 1TB boxes and all the saved stuff on them.

Sorry to be a pain in the arse - I'm sure I could google this - but what is the upgrade fee?

For the IQ3?

if so its $150 for self install [only if you have a current IQ/IQ2 wired in the same spot]. Or $200 for it to be installed by a tech.

It seems like the box is a one off payment of $125 and either $25 for the postage or $75 for a tech to come out and do it/re-wire.

Wonder what the true cost of all of this is ^ and how much is price gouging....

I mean $200 to be installed by a tech...gagf, what is he doing, relaunching the Space Shuttle?

Well the $75 for the tech is for labor and stuff, all the installers are 3rd party installers and not foxtel employees. The guys ive had at my apartment when i got it installed or multi-room added have been nice guys and it can take time to re-wire the walls and stuff for the 2/3 cables needed. same with when its a fresh install and need to put a dish on the roof. Between my place, my mums place and my sisters place ive been there for about 7 installs/upgrades and everytime they have been nice people, but are all 3rd party. I dont know how they get paid when foxtel offer the Free install for new customers, And in more regional areas the installers cant do a install every hour when they have appointments that are 30min drives from eachother. [One of the installs at my mums place was early because the installer was in the area and just called to switch appointments]. and even the installers get put on hold for 10 mins when activating the smart cards lol.

If they installs were done by foxtel employees i would think its too much when you think how much they charge for the packs, I would think the installers get about $40-$50 of the $75 for the job. Which i dont think is too bad for specialist electricians.

Considering most DVR's cost around $300 its not too badly priced

i think they would make huge money from multi-room with $15pm without recording and $25pm with recording active on the boxes. and i dont know how many subscribers would only have 1 box.

I think the only thing foxtel lose money on is the On Demand store, i have platinum HD and get 2 free movies a month and i dont think ive ever used them both. Ive never used the on demand store. But they make huge money from sport and they pushed that up $10 a month last year.

See, I think the opposite - I read this thread, and occasionally read Whirlpool and listen to people talk about their multi-room setups.

Unless you want multiple boxes to record on, which I don't, Foxtel Go has almost made it too easy to not need a second box. I ended up just buying a second Apple TV for the for the TV in my bedroom, and I airplay from Foxtel Go to watch in bed.

Maybe that's too difficult if you have kids in the house or something. But even then, don't most kids have iPads now anyway?

Don't they block that?

Don't they block that?

What do you mean? Are you asking if they block Airplay from the Foxtel Go app?

If that's the question, no - I was using it as recently as yesterday morning with no problems. You don't get the icon on the video screen - but you slide the screen up, select Airplay, select Apple TV (I don't select mirroring), and it works a treat. Obviously the picture quality isn't as good, but I'm watching it in bed, so I hardly care.

I've read that Foxtel Go doesn't show all AFL games, but I don't really care about that, I want to watch them on the big screen in the lounge room anyway.

AFL is not available on the Foxtel Go app on laptops/desktops, only the tablet/mobile Foxtel Go apps have AFL.

I know im wasting at least $25pm with multi-room for the spare room. I have 3 boxes in a 2 bedroom apartment where its just me and my girlfriend. I use the Box in our bedroom most days with watching stuff at night or morning before i get out of bed. We also use it when we want to watch different stuff or im playing the PS4 in the lounge. The only time we use the one in the spare room is when watching something while cooking since the spare room is right across from the kitchen and can see the TV from the bench, or if someone i staying over. I only have foxtel in the spare room from when one of my mates lived with me about 4-5 years ago and he moved out about 3 years ago.

I dont use go and i dont have an Ipad or any apple/isheep products. and my Galaxy 10.5' tab doesnt have Foxtel go. But Go is only in SD so i wouldnt use it even if it worked on my tablet.

Looking to get multi room for the first time.

I have a question to those who already have it.

If I use the foxtel guide app to record a program. Does it record on both boxes?

I already have a IQ2 and want to get a IQ3 too.
