Teams New Orleans Saints - The Who Dats

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Bush has been in the top 10 before. Must be all those USC freaks that don't have a professional team.

Would be interesting if they published the full list from every team.

Could be a bit embarrassing for some players.

Interesting DeSean Jackson outselling anyone at the Eagles. If you ever wanted an indication that times in Philly have changed that would be it.

Well, who else would it be? D-Mac and B-West are gone- probably the two main rivals for shirt sales. The guy is instant offence and has had some spectacular plays- and should be fun watchuing him develop with J-Mac and Kolb.

By the way, I do think you would probably see super bowl champs gear spike in the months after they win- not knocking the Saints with that, but it simply seems a standard way to go- lot of people want to jump on the bandwagon.

On he other hand, there is a student at my school who has shirts of Brees, Colston and Bush- and was wearing them every day for two weeks after the Supe win- getting on the nerves of one of the teacher who is from Indy....

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Not suprised at all the Saints are the top. All of my friends who know nothing about the NFL all of a sudden became "massive" saints fans, so i imagine the same thing could very well have happened in the US. The combination of the dream run and the whole New Orleans story combined perfectly to create a bandwagoners dream scenario.

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

It's interesting R.Bush making the top 10 himself. Considering he was considered a bust for so many years, then suddenly, this year, not like he had a C.Johnson year, but he had a few good games and apparently there's a "Reggie Bandwagon" out there that still exists.

During the course of the past NFL season I've had many Saints conversations with a under 30 in age coworker who is a rabid Saints fan. I think a lot of the Reggie mania is the fact that he is one fine looking speciman of the male species.:)

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Saints fans bandwagoners?

That's pretty funny considering the history and the past level of support.

You mean the past history of support, which your thread demonstrates has been nowhere near the current level?

I.e., never in top 10 before, now top?

Who Dat? Dats da bandwagon. Choo Choo.

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

I don't really get upset or get proud of selling jerseys tbh. To think you could be crowing about a SB win, now you're trying to marginalise it in relation to sales.

Petty thread is petty.

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Must really burn big market NFC Easy fans that the smallest market in the country can out pace them.

Especially those yet to win a SuperBowl.

Yeah, thats right.

Ive got so little self esteem that after winning the superbowl i actually bother bragging about my teams bandwagon fans buying shirts. Oh wait that wasnt me at all.

BTW, being consistently amongst the top, regardless of performance is a better situation than having bangwagoners who jump on to share the success. :) Im more than comfortable in my franchises security.

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Well I know some people's self esteem is based on the football team they support (hence why they chose the clubs they do) but posting the information had nothing to do with that.

The reason I posted it was because it is a perfect illustration why parity works.

4+ years ago the Saints were the number 1 candidate slated for relocation.

The city that hosted them had it's population and infrastructure decimated. Despite being the smallest NFL market, the smallest TV market & the obvious social problems of a city in ruins, Saints fans have filled the dome every home game since. In fact they have one of the longest waiting lists in the NFL.

All this BEFORE winning a Superbowl.

Bandwagoners? LOL

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

People like to support successful teams. They won the Superbowl. I'm not surprised and I don't think anyone else is. It's a 'meh' stat...

Just as long as JD doesn't bring up the fact that Reggie Bust is selling an arseload of jerseys as an apology for shitty play, I don't care. :thumbsu:

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Pre-existing Saints fans wouldnt be bandwagoners at all. But what you always get unfortunately is that whenever a team wins a SB or becomes a regularly top team, you get people jumping on to their wagon---either admitted new fans to gridiron, or people pretending to be long-time Saints fans.

It's something that just always happens. Personally, i dont care tho because the more gridiron fans the better.

I'll add to JD's post.
I live in this region and it wasn't just NO that Katrina decimated. Mississippi and Alabama literally had cities pratically obliterated by Katrina. My state was reeling from 4 hurricanes in 2004 that left 1 in every 5 homes damaged. For this Southern region to have a team that almost lost it's Superdome home to relocation to now have three years of sell out crowds it truly fantastic.
We Saints fans don't have the legacy of the John Madden Oakland Raiders, Joe Gibbs and his Washington Redskins with 3 SB wins, the pre Jerry Jones Cowboys with the classy Tom Landry. We barely have several seasons with 10 or more wins. I have been a long time fan who has been around long enough to remember the brown paper bag wearing fans who still bought a ticket because of the love of the game or the loyalty to the city and the team.

I want to give great thanks to the state of Mississippi for allowing casino's to be built. This has created a need for charter buses to deliver the out of state gamblers which in turn allows fans of the Saints, Atlanta Braves, FSU college football and Nascar fans to travel to sporting events they wouldn't be able to attend. For the upcoming Saints season, I can ride the bus for the 400 mile round trip for $125 (ticket included), bring a cooler and be drunk as a skunk by the time I hit the Alabama line.

So here's a shout out to the fans of the Detroit Lions...Never give up hope.

If it was that simple why weren't they top 10 in sales before the SB post Katrina?

The parity argument may be valid when it comes to ticket sales, but hardly in this case. I would doubt they were close to the top 10 before this year, possibly top 16 but on the outer edges.

They broke into the top 10 for the year around November. I guess thats when the 'faithful' started believing they could win the whole thing. :)

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

I wasn't suggesting parity had anything to do with ticket-sales.

On GG's point, I don't see that as a problem, infact quite the opposite.

In sport we've always known that onfield success equates to increased support. I bet many people here started following a team due to playoff performances.

For the Saints to survive long term they need to generate support beyond New Orleans and I would welcome a few million bandwagoners if that's what a SB brings. Not all will drop off when the team drops off.

Of course, i truely believe it would have been posted by you had it been 'New York Giants are NFLs top sellers'. :thumbsu: Wasnt chest beating at all.

And yet, strangely enough none of this is relevant to the thread. Thats super though.

Before superbowl, not in top 10, never been in top 10.

After superbowl, first.

Stop being precious, and admit the obvious. Anyone with half a brain would recognize theres a bandwagon element to any superbowl winner.

Re: Saints Are NFL's Top Sellers

Ummm . . . wasn't this your quote :

Official confirmation of Saints fans being bandwagoners

Now it's all superbowl winners?

Seriously STO, sometimes I wonder why you bother at all.

So do i...

Do you need to demonstrate your lack of basic reading comprehension skills so blatantly?

If all superbowl winners have an element of bandwagon fans... and you've just won the superbowl... you will have... guess what? Bandwagon fans. That your figures demonstrated it clearly is your problem, not mine.

Its amusing though, you backtracked from 'we dont have bandwagon fans' to 'bandwagoners are good maaaaaaan' pretty seamlessly.
