Essentially Albanese and Buffett are contending that the rich shouldn't be able to manipulate their taxable income to pay a smaller tax rate than the poor and that there should be a tax rate floor for a given income that you shouldn't be able deduct your way below.
Pollies always think they can dupe people by saying they will tackle avoidance. The muppet Tory chancellor in the UK has tried the same trick. The predicted revenue never arrives. Its a con. The other great BS line is "efficiency savings". Like that works in the PS.
Albo is either thick or just having you on. Note he doesn't even mention spending.

Mal its BS. Osborne pulls the same crap in the UK. Instead of making tough decisions they play to the crowd and pretend they can solve budget issues by tackling avoidance. It raises two thirds of stuff all every time (and can even cost money, see charging non doms).
The wealthy do pay tax like everyone else. A massively disproportionate amount.
Its just dishonest claptrap. Biggest proponents of it is The Guardian. Amusing given their penchant for offshore tax avoidance to avoid tax when selling assets.

A lot of wealthy peeps and companies don't pay tax via various schemes. That should stop.

PC Alexander Omar Basha, who is attached to the force's Diplomatic Protection Group, objected to being posted to protect Israel's embassy in central London from possible terrorist attack because he disagreed with the country's bombing of Lebanon. The officer had reportedly attended a recent anti-war protest.

Maggie, I have no idea but its long been going on. The below happened just after I first arrived in the UK. There have been a heap of sex scandals ever since (Hamilton, Jeffrey Archer etc).
