So hang on, Don Pyke has 4 years' assistant coaching experience... Adelaide 2005-06 and West Coast 2014-15.

Two mediocre teams that became flat out awesome overnight?

Where do I sign?

Family lives here. Roo make it happen.

"Remarkably ... my wife said to me today, 'I've seen that quote' and I said, 'Well, there's no way you'd want to live in Adelaide'," Malthouse said.

"She said, 'We don't have to live in Adelaide - you do'."

charmed.

Gramps we don't want you.

Smart woman Mrs Malthouse - the divorce you get without an actual divorce :D

From me, no to any coach that "needs" a mentor, that doesn't mean don't surround the coach we do get with the most experience, and especially no to any sort of 2 years then I'm gone type succession plans, we're not that bad.

We need the best available coach for now, and if they get results, long term. Somebody the players can get behind and follow. I don't think we have a list of players that would be willing to wait around for 2-3 years while a coach learns or whatever else, we have a number of players who we should be getting the best out of over the next few years.

Pyke is the interesting one, the years away from AFL scare me but I do think he was an assistant, at least part time in the WAFL for some of that time?

Campo to Carlton would make sense ...

I'm still not sure which was we should go - but I'm pretty certain that Mick Malthouse is not the answer. Cannot see us going that way.

The formula last time was to get a cross-experienced assistant coach - after flicking through the Coaches Association website - any of these names pop out?

The Carlton job is a caretaker role for 2-3 years until they start looking like they might be competitive again and then sack the poor bastard and poach someone fresh and exciting to bring in the fans they lost during the rebuild

Also known as Le chalice poison..

In a race for the gold I'm prepared to
Jump off the high board
Dive in the deep end
Make a splash
Sink or swim
And declare that it will be...
A full Pyke with back-to-the-future twist

If I'm right..all will go swimmingly:)

i hope we convince woosha to stay as either coach or mentor . if the latter i think bolton would be a good choice .
he's a premiership coach (tassie) coached boxhill , stood in for clarko 5 - 0 . currently is in what most consider the best system in the afl .

Malthouse seems past head coaching in terms of his ability to suffer fools, which unfortunately is a requirement, and I'm not sure he's up with it anymore to be honest. I don't think that's ageist because if you looked at his last 18 months and ignored his history you wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

agree !
taking into account the manner in which he left his last 2 clubs it would be to big risk to appoint malthouse .

Never going to happen ....Malthouse desperate ....great coach ...but he's done now in AFL as far as any more coaching or even admin jobs
