Richmond
As three of the traditional Big 4 clubs, all have been no better than mediocre for over a decade (or in Richmond's case, three decades).

With all three clubs languishing in the lower half of the ladder and fans talking about rebuilds, it will be interesting to see which of the three gets it's act together first.

All three clubs have a solid base to build from, but there is a lot of work to be done before any of them are contending for a flag.

Which club do you think will win a flag before the other two, and why?

Don't know. A year or two can change a lot in the league. At the moment none looks likely.

Probably Essendon only because I expected them to be a top 4 treat for years without derailing events messing up their season. But I stopped believing in it now, so they will likely be bolters next year...

Eh?

Our list is just fine - don't be lumping us in with two of the poorer lists in the league.

To be fair, there is languishing ;) And then there is languishing .

With GC and GWS set to rip the place apart in the coming years plus the strength of lists like HFC and SS, the next flag looks like it is beyond reach in the foreseeable future for the 3 clubs listed.

I don't think it would be considered biased to list EFC as the strongest of the three, but of you ain't first, you might as well be last so it matters not.

None of these teams will win it in the foreseeable future, so it would be foolish to make a prediction. All three are at least 2 years from being serious contenders. By then, GCS and GWS are beginning peak of their dominance.

Who will get the closest in the next few years? Probably Richmond. Carlton's list doesn't inspire confidence, and Essendon has a big asterisk next to it.

Essendon are ahead of Carlton & Richmond by a margin but the reality is none of them can win a flag with their current lists. Essendon could punt the future by trading picks for the right players but it would be a big risk with no margin fro error. Carlton need to much and don;t enough coming through. Richmond are somewhere in the middle. They may be better than they are showing - the coach has to have queries over him.

As the 5th oldest side in the comp this year, for Carlton to be out of finals contention at this stage is pretty damning. Some major list work needed.

Take out Fletcher, and Essendon and Richmond are almost identical in age this season, in the bottom seven in the comp (behind e.g. St.Kilda), so both lists have potential to grow. Both need to find three or four very good players to contend in the next few years, and both might need a change of coach.

These type of questions always amuse me. While we all might have an opinion the truth is none of the three teams are in a premiership window. You might assess one being in a better position than the other two, but that may only be valid for a season or two. By the time that side is ready to challenge the other two may have come good. Alternatively the favoured team now can quickly fall down the ladder, while the other two may languish, yo-yo, rise,...

Your list is currently only marginally better and could vanish at any moment. You indeed do belong in this group.

Marginally better my ass, we are 10 goals better than both those sides and about 6 wins better a season, we have just as many if not more young blokes coming through, we are so far ahead of Carlton and Richmond it's not funny.

Carlton , easily ... best contested mark in the comp, midfield & KP depth , return of kreuzer

Bombers rely too much on watson & goddard

Richmond will struggle while grigg & hampson continue to get games

Seem to be going without him at the moment, you will also look mighty stupid if we beat the Pies on Sunday without BJ
