Interesting reading looking through all the player contracts in the nfl for each position. With them being so openly available to the public no wonder you have guys competing against each other to see who earns the most.

Interesting looking at future cap. 2013 Lombardi or bust for Seattle.
New England, Atlanta and San Francisco have the room and wiggle space to still improve. Seattle will need to start ripping that team apart and hope for the best in future seasons.

I wonder how selfish Brees is too, that contract could hold back the rest of that team if he doesn't take a cut.

They have a tonne of short term contracts, so I don't think they have to change too much. I think they're comfortable enough with their young base to actually pursue major FAs at the start of the years. After 2014 their total attributed dives. Add in a bit of success, and I think they're a team who will be able to 'negotiate' a few of their players down.

Add in the fact that I like a lot of their talent behind the big spenders (Ie Michael behind Lynch), I think they'll be pretty comfortable in ditching cash without losing too much if Wilson remains upright.

4 year rookie deal with franchise tags available later for reasonable prices

Teams with stud rookie QBs have such a huge edge vs other teams saving up to 15% of the cap from QB savings
If they want to be pricks they do. For some reason I thought it was 3 years. Surely he will start asking for a mega deal.

Teams have to do whats best for their team as well as the individual. The nature of the cap means that by giving your QB all the money is going to royally screw you up long term in a lot of cases. However, because the league is so QB heavy by not having a stud QB, you already lose.

Case in point, Baltimore. They could never get someone close to Joe Flacco levels outside of him, and because they had to give him all the money, they lose players such as Anquan Boldin, and will be in salary cap hell for the near future.

I don't think that is Wilson's style.

I get the impression that quite a few of our players will be happy getting unders if it means keeping the team together. Having said that I don't expect Rice will be back unless he takes a significant pay cut - his output is not worth what we're paying him, with our revamped DLine Clemons might find himself out as well.

Wilson is still represented by a sports agent and they (agent/wilson) will obviously demand a salary commensurate with the top QBs in the league. Knowing too, winning a lombardi will bump up his value.

This is true.

However, Wilson wants to win championships and go down in history as one of the greats he can't do that without a team. Doubtless he will be paid handsomely (part remuneration for what he has already done I imagine) but I'm not expecting Flacco sort of money.

There was talk of him holding out last year.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. He is going to get a lot of money, it's just a matter of whether it's unders, fair, overs or Flacco

I'm not as knowledgeable on the contract front but I thought rookies weren't allowed to re-negotiate until 3 or something years?

His agent asked for a new deal at the start of the year

I'm not sure how the renegotiations work after the new CBA, I actually thought the same as you. It was probably just media hype. Wasn't really my point though, I just meant he is going to be paid a considerable amount more than 500,000 pretty soon

Cook represents Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. And Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that an unnamed representative of Wilson (i.e., Cook or someone who works for him) called the Seahawks this week “insisting that something be done” to adjust Wilson’s slotted third-round rookie contract.

Ironically it is a three year minimum since the new CBA. NFL agents are useless. Point still stands though

Cheers for that. Wilson needs a new agent methinks :p. To be honest I'm not too worried about him breaking the bank (but yes he will certainly get paid - and he thoroughly deserves it) more so Sherman, Thomas and co. Who, (perhaps justifiably) believe they are the best in the NFL in their respective positions. Hopefully the desire to keep the Legion of Boom together will lead them to being amenable to taking unders however, Chancellor's contract didn't really indicate that too much. We'll see.

As far as I'm concerned on offense we need to keep Wilson, Harvin, Marshawn (for the next couple of years at least), and Okung (Unger, Miller and one of Baldwin and Tate are handy here too). Outside of that, if you are asking for overs then personally (from purely an output and money perspective) I'm not overly concerned if you leave.

Defense is a whole different story though.

Found an info graph from the 2014 season of how QB's fared..
