Dolphins adding 32 “living rooms” to Sun Life Stadium

In recent years, there’s been debate among NFL teams about the best ways to incorporate things people like about watching games at home into the stadium experience so that they can continue to get people to pay money for tickets.

The Dolphins think they’ve hit on one way to do that. They plan to bring the living room to the stadium. As part of their $400 million renovation of Sun Life Stadium, the team is installing 32 “living rooms” in the lower bowl of the stadium that come in groups of four with 30-inch wide recliners and an 18-inch television in front of each seat.

“We’re out to give a fan the very best seat and the very best experience they could possibly have,” Dolphins president and CEO Tom Garfinkel, via ESPN.com. “There are enough people in this marketplace that, if you can do that, [you] don’t care what it costs.”

The costs are significant. Each group of four costs $75,000 for the season and there are options for bigger TVs that can drive the price higher, although the payout does cover access to food, drink, a lounge, a separate entrance and “a mini garbage to throw things out.” Garfinkel said he expects the seats to sell out and generate a waiting list among those eager to shell out big bucks for things they likely already have at home.

It's pretty silly, hey? And you're paying an exorbitant amount for that "living room" when you already have a living room at home.
Living room for $75,000 vs house for $500,000
Can be a season ticket holder for 6 years for the same price as a house! :p

Can't sleep there tho. And only 8 times a year you can use it, for 3-4 hours each time.
Depends.
I know Arsenal sell 'superboxes' for a year and you have free access to it outside of gameday for work functions and the like.
Perhaps Miami are doing the same where you can have friends and family over on thanksgiving or something? :p

Construction projects often go over budget. But not usually by 50 percent.

That’s what has happened in Atlanta, where the projected cost of the team’s new stadium have increased from $1 billion to $1.5 billion.

The news came not through any formal announcement, but via comments from owner Arthur Blank during a panel discussion at the Rotary Club of Atlanta, per the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Blank referred to the project as a “1.5 billion stadium” during the panel discussion, and Blank confirmed after the panel discussion that, indeed, the stadium has increased once again in expense.

It’s unclear why the costs keep going up, or whether Blank will hold anyone responsible for it with their jobs. Maybe they’ll find a way to pin this one on the original Roddy White.

Yeah 1 winning game in 10 frames is still a win i suppose at the drunken bums game which is Pool/8 Ball where anyone can beat anyone.

Snooker Balls come on different story though even with your 35pt head start! ;)

Falcons hit their borrowing limit of $850 million

Last December, the Falcons secured permission to exceed the league limit for debt, obtaining the ability to borrow up to $850 million for its new stadium. It was unclear at the time whether the Falcons would reach that limit.

They now have.

Via D. Orlando Lebetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Falcons executive vice president and chief financial officer Greg Beadles told a state agency on Tuesday that the Falcons will borrow the full $850 million to pay for the new stadium.

The debt has increased as the cost of the venue that looks like a futuristic change purse has grown from $1 billion to $1.2 bill to $1.4 billion to, most recently, $1.5 billion. Which means that the stadium in which the team will play likely will cost more than the team that will play there is worth.

Like the new stadium in Atlanta, the new stadium in Minnesota keeps going more and more over budget. Unlike the new stadium in Atlanta, the new stadium in Minnesota is increasing in cost not by hundreds of millions of dollars but only by tens of millions.

Via the Associated Press, the Vikings will kick in another $14 million to the project, most of which will pay for more than 2,000 HDTV monitors to be installed in the venue.

The Vikings and the NFL will now pay $566 million of the $1 billion structure. The private contribution has increased by $89 million since the stadium project began in 2012.

In contrast, the stadium in Atlanta started at $1 billion and has increased by 50 percent, to $1.5 billion.

More seats removed from FedEx Field

Not long ago, more than 200,000 people were waiting to purchase season tickets at FedEx Field. Now, the team is waiting for them to come back.

In the interim, Washington has reduced the capacity of its home stadium three times in five years. According to Dan Steinberg and Scott Allen of the Washington Post, “thousands” have seats once again have been ripped out of the venue that once was the biggest in the league.

Via Steinberg and Allen, the team said in a statement that the changes are “part of an overall plan based on season ticket holder feedback,” and that details will be unveiled shortly. Steinberg and Allen estimate that another 6,000 seats have been removed. For 2014, capacity at FedEx Field was listed at 85,000.

With the blackout policy suspended for 2015 (and presumably gone forever), it’s no longer as important to shrink stadium size to intersect with demand. But if the demand has taken a permanent dip given the gap between the experience of watching the game at home and venturing to a venue that looks and feels a lot older than 18, it makes sense to shrink capacity, in advance of imploding the whole thing.

Silverdome can be yours for only $30 million

An autographed urinal from the Pontiac Silverdome recently went for $3,000. The rest of the building can be had for slightly more money.

Via JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press, the dilapidated Silverdome and its surrounding 127 acres landed on the market several weeks ago with an asking price of $30 million. That would be a healthy profit for its current owner, who bought it in 2009 from the City of Pontiac for only $583,000.

The sale price has been described as “flexible” (the asking price for real estate almost always is), and two offers already have been made.

The current owner had planned to revitalize the venue, saying it never would be sold. Instead, the roof ripped away during a 2013 storm, and a 2014 auction of the building’s contents (including the urinal later signed by Barry Sanders) generated $500,0000.

Per the report, most of the prospective buyers would tear down the Silverdome and redevelop the area. Given the current state of the structure, that’s hardly a surprise.
