...they beat us this year too? Obvs thrashing Melbourne isn't a great indicator of where they're at but still. They're actually pretty good.
Yeah and have played at Etihad last two weeks. Melbourne havent won there for 24 games. Their last win their was against the Dogs. Obviously different teams, gameplans, coaches, players etc.

A very good game to test us.
Will be interesting to see if Minson gets a game. Nic will kill redpath or whatever ruckman they throw at us.

He played his part, Sinkers. Beaten in the ruck, but was gallant and took important marks ... and that big goal ... a beauty, dead straight.

Posted in the wrong thread, hahaha. Flogged in the ruck but gives it a crack everywhere else on the ground, its good

So, if Hawthorn beats Port and we win against the Dogs, it's actually potentially in our favor to lose the next two games after that - then instead of Hawks (possibly away) our first final is against Freo again - hopefully with Gov, Schoey, Naita and LeCras back.

Though if Freo also lose to NM next week, then if we win all three remaining games we actually finish top. Home final against Sydney in all likelihood if that happens.

Freo need to lose two games for us to catch them

Dogs are great at Etihad. Here is their record for the year away from that venue...

Round 2 - Western Bulldogs won by 19 pts vs Richmond MCG
Round 3 - Hawthorn won by 70 pts York Park
Round 5 - Western Bulldogs won by 4 pts vs Sydney SCG
Round 8 - Melbourne won by 39 pts MCG
Round 10 - Port Adelaide won by 38 pts Adelaide oval
Round 15 - Western Bulldogs won by 22 pts at Cazalys Stadium vs Gold Coast
Round 16 - Geelong won by 8 pts at Kardinia Park

So they have won 3 out of 8 away from Etihad beating Richmond before they found form.
Sydney who they will probally finish higher than and Gold coast at a game they sold played at a netural ground. Two top 8 teams.

Out of their games at home, some of what have been quite impressive wins.
They beat
WCE by 10.
Adelaide by 57.
St Kilda by 7
Lost to Fremantle won by 13
GWS by 45.
Brisbane by 72.
St Kilda by 6.
Carlton by 11.
Collingwood by 18.
Essendon by 87.
Port by 64.
Melbourne by 98.

So they beat everyone at home including two top 8 teams. One who is 8th. Starting to sound familiar?
But loss to Freo. Their only loss at Etihad all year who are also the top team.

Lately they have definately hit form. 3 big wins, all without leaving melboure and all at Etihad so they will carry confidence but also played today so no advantageous with the break between games.

Haven't play in Perth all year. Can they travel against a team who pushed the best team to 14 points without NicNat then beat the top team without NicNat, Lecras and McGovern without a visit to the airport for three weeks?

So I'm hearing strong word about the Essendon players starting to wake up to Hird and most of them now want him gone.

I found it pretty humorous because it was from the same blokes who posted '#standbyhird' on their twitters not that long ago
Yeh, funny how eventually the longing for team performance overrides personal love of a great (ex) player...our club is a good example of how it can be done, however belatedly.

Comparison of teams played twice between West and Freo. For shits and giggles I've added Hawthorn as well

1st - Fremantle : West Coast have played twice
2nd - West Coast : Fremantle have played twice
4th - Bulldogs : West Coast will play twice
5th - Sydney : Hawthorn have played twice
6th - Richmond : Fremantle have played twice
7th - North : Fremantle will play twice
8th - Adelaide : West Coast will play twice
9th - Geelong : Hawthorn have played twice
12th - Port : Hawthorn and Fremantle will play twice
13th - St Kilda : West Coast play twice
14th - Melbourne : Fremantle play twice
15th - Essendon : Hawthorn have played twice
16th - Gold Coast : West Coast have played twice
18th - Carlton : Hawthorn will play twice

Breakdown :

Top 4 sides - West Coast 2, Fremantle 1, Hawthorn 0
Top 8 sides - West Coast 3, Fremantle 3, Hawthorn 1
Bottom 4 sides - West Coast 1, Fremantle 0, Hawthorn 2

Average ladder position of double up sides :
West Coast - 8th
Fremantle - 8th
Hawthorn - 12th

Average wins for sides played/to be played twice after 19 games :
West Coast - 9.8
Fremantle - 10.6
Hawthorn - 8.0

The next time someone tells you the Eagles are top 2 on the back of an easy draw, punch them in the mouth

To be fair, at the time the draw was made, the Bulldogs weren't thought to be much chop and Port were flag favourites

Agreed, but there's a difference between theory and reality and I've become sick of hearing about our "soft" draw which based on last years positions had some merit but performances of sides this year suggest otherwise. Our draw also avoided games against the best sides (Freo excluded) until relatively deep into the season giving the illusion of an easy draw when as it turns out we've had a marginally easier run than Freo and a much harder one than Hawthorn

Haven't seen anyone question Hawthorns soft draw

In amongst the umpiring chat, done the numbers during a lecture.

Richmond lead frees for by a mile (429 for, 2nd is North with 387. Eagles 7th with 343, Freo 10th with 334, only 9 frees more for West Coast).

Differential for the season:

  1. Richmond +68 (1st in frees for, 6th in frees against)
  2. Eagles +53 (7th, 18th)
  3. North +48 (2nd, 11th)
  4. Suns +34 (3rd, 13th)
  5. Collingwood +32 (13th, 17th)
  6. Hawthorn +20 (12th, 14th)
  7. Bulldogs +20 (15th, 15th)
  8. Carlton +14 (6th, 12th)
  9. Adelaide -10 (18th, 15th)
  10. Port -10 (14th, 10th)
  11. GWS -11 (11th, 9th)
  12. Melbourne -20 (9th, 7th)
  13. Essendon -24 (8th, 5th)
  14. Brisbane - 34 (5th, 2nd)
  15. Fremantle -37 (10th, 4th)
  16. St Kilda -45 (4th, 1st)
  17. Sydney -50 (16th, 3rd)
  18. Geelong -53 (17th most for, 8th most against)
Eagles with the least frees against (290) adding to the massive differential, St Kilda with the most frees against at 395. Richmond 6th in frees against yet still crushing the table thanks to the massive frees for advantage.

Speaks well of Simpson. We are about as disciplined as I've ever seen us.

Lolno it's a conspiracy

No, Collingwood at 17th is a conspiracy. Bunch of mangy snipers and the umpiring when we faced them this year is literally the worst I have ever, ever seen.

I'm actually pretty sure the umps either barrack for Collingwood or were paid.

Not really - we want to finish 2nd

That way we get Hawks at home - we win that and we get the "easier prelim"

Lose and we likely get Freo on the swing around.
