I thought there was generally a gentleman's agreement league wide that if one of your footy dept guys gets offered a senior coaching role elsewhere that you let them go.

That only pertains to assistant coaches getting a promotion.
If you recall Sydney, they knocked back Dew's movement to Melbourne because he wasn't offered a promotion in his direct role at Melbourne.
He was to be appointed their 2IC and then promoted as their coach.
In most clubs, the Football Director (Eade) is considered a more senior position than the coach.

AFLCA will be out in the pressing slamming him in no time... Stuart Dew's situation was very different. A senior coach gig is still higher than football director.

He'll get there... Eddie can turn purple all he wants.

It varies at clubs depending on your organisational structure.
Buckley directly reports to Eade who reports to the football director who sits on the board.
It's exactly the same as Dew in the sense of seniority at the football clubs.

Name me one premiership "football director" that's held in as high regard as the coach?

It's just a fancy title/role to make senior coach calibre assistant coaches feel more important than they actually are.

Are you seriously telling me Eade could outrank Bucks on any decision within that club?

Geoff Walsh & Andrew Ireland to name 2 this decade that are held in as high regard/if not more at premiership clubs this decade.
You are getting confused with assistant coaches (Eade isn't involved with coaching at all) and football managers.
Buckley reports to Eade in our organisational structure. It's the same at many other clubs.

Walsh and Ireland are well regarded but aren't held in the same esteem as Roos and Malthouse... Yes football director is a high level position for administrators but a senior coach is still the single most respected and regarded non-player at any club. It's a totally different ball game.

Hell if Leigh Matthews who sits on our board decided to go back to coaching we wouldn't hold him back. It's absolutely crazy to suggest that Eade shouldn't be released and even crazier to demand compensation.

I think it's actually a clause in the standard assistant coach's contract...

...the problem here being that Eade isn't an assistant coach, so presumably doesn't have said clause (otherwise Deaddie wouldn't have a leg to stand on).

So Eddie's asking for pick 5 and Aish to send Eade to the Suns?

Given the number of Collingwood supporters wanted O'Meara from GWS for Beams, it wouldn't surprise me if they're asking for Treloar from GC for Eade.

The compensation, if any, is really to cover the costs and inconvenience of replacing someone mid-term. It isn't to compensate Collingwood if, as Eddie puts it, 'we have to pay overs for a replacement'. On that reasoning, if they paid unders for a replacement (which is quite possible given the talents and experience of the man they are replacing), you couldn't imagine Eddie offering to pay money back.

Eddie would want to be very careful how he plays this. He can bluster all he wants but at the end of the day if he were to stop Eade going then he is certainly going to give pause to anyone else thinking about applying for a position at the pies in the future. At the end of the day as with Beams the pies won't stop him going, they would never hear the end of it and you don't want a disgruntled employee there overlooking your coaching structure.

He's already said they've let him go.

We have all begrudgingly admired Eddie over the years for what he does for Collingwood.....but,

... with the mouthing off he has done in recent times, he is fast starting to sound and look like a whinging idiot......and not doing his club any favours in the process imo.
