Dunno about the ref, but the ump ( ) would tell the player who got the free kick to pick up the ball. The player who fakes to pick it up (aka the Rocky special) has no obligation to deliver it to his opponent.

Fair enough. It's his own fault for not catching it.

I was just wondering whether players had an obligation to pick up the ball and what the result would be - free kick against for time wasting, play on, or what.
