Not Giving In and Never Tear Us Apart (songs)

Newcastle start playing the song - in full - just after the players walk onto to the pitch. Saw a few scarves in the background being held up. The song ended about 50 seconds before kick off.

I know they did it first. But surely they will stop if 2 blokes hold scarves up as opposed to about 30,000 Port supporters.
Got nothing to do about scarves. Its about what a big chunk of their fans do and have been doing since 2007. The camera didnt do the full 360 degree pan around so I have no idea how many of their fans get into it. The bloody cameraman spent around 20-30 seconds on the Sydney "Cove" supporters.

Wow didn't know they have been doing it for so long! What were Port doing in 20... Ahh never mind.

In this post on page 9 of this thread I put the story from the Newcastle Herald dated10th of February 2014 going thru the history of how a couple of fans on a footy forum picked the song and decided to use it themselves. The Herald did the story because the INXS - Never Tear Us Apart miniseries had just been on 7 and rated its socks off.

This story was 7 weeks before we first played it. I posted this on the 15th April last year and sent it to Matthew Richardson. I had spoken to him in between the first game on 29th March and posting this article and said Newcastle use it and he said he and a few people he asked were completely unaware of Newcastle using it.

Thanks mate for all the information. Very interesting. I really like the fact that it was the players who suggested the club got a similar theme such as YNWA. Having been to Anfield a few times, I know how it feels to hear the crowd singing it as a fan and can only imagine how great it must feel for the players. I did notice the countdown when I watched the game live but I didn't know the other details.

Here is some footage of the song and how it has grown. We played it at 11 home games and 1 final last year.

1st home game and first game at new redeveloped Adelaide Oval last year- you can see almost no crowd involvement

Someone has spliced a video of the day. They are close to where the players race is that they run onto the ground. If a game starts at say 2.10 the running schedule is supposed to be
2.02 Not Giving in by Rudimental starts and players get ready to run on the ground and listen to thousand of white people clap out of time.
2-03 players get ready to run thru the banner and club song plays
2.09 NTUA plays with 60 second countdown on the big screens.
2.10 Umpire bounces the ball

Look at how there is very little crowd interaction for Not Giving In and then NTUA - the club didnt tell many people it wanted new rituals to start that day.

2nd home game just the video on the big screen. They didn't have John McCarthy at 35 but at 29 at the start of the year

5th game and first night game

11th and last home game before the finals

Taking silver in a manner not dissimilar to Geelong '95 and Melbourne '00.

Of all the years to be the best of the rest...

I'm watching all the videos right now, thanks for all the links.
Let me just say how beautiful that stadium looks! So different to the kind of stadiums I've been to in my life.

EDIT: and by the way I love the club theme song. It's so catchy and old style. Sounds a lot like some English football clubs songs. Been singing it inside my head for a while now

Adelaide Oval has been kept like those grand old baseball stadiums in USA where one end is left open or like Wrigley Field event though they had renovations since 2009, and with major ones since 2014, they have kept the ivy covered outfield walls.

You may find some great photos of pre, during and post redevelopment photos as well as maybe get a feel for the politics of the redeveloped oval. This thread was started in May 2011 when the members of the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) voted 80% - needed a 75% vote - to give up their lease on Adelaide Oval (AO) and approve to go into a joint venture with the South Australia National Football League (SANFL) and redevelop AO and form the Stadium Management Authority (SMA) to run AO. Its is 182 pages.

In this thread in forums on Sensational Adelaide, a forum about property development in Adelaide, they have a thread about the redevelopment of AO starting in May 2007 when the state and federal government gave grants to build a new western stand. The 2011 decision meant the existing small southern and eastern stands were pulled down and massive new ones built and the open northern end was redeveloped. This is 282 pages and has lots and lots of photos from 2007 onwards.

Hopefully both NTUA and NGI are benched this week!!!

Presumably, both teams will enter through the same banner like Ess and Coll do??

Why would NTUA be benched. You do all the ANZAC stuff, John Schumann singing I was only 19, national anthem, last post and there is still a couple of dead minutes before the game starts as they take away the flag pole and props, so why not do the NTUA song and video?

The NGI video isn't working.

If I've driven all the way down from Bris via Melb to AO for this game and there was no NTUA I would be spewing hellfire. I've been dying to be a part of it. Not all Port supporters have the luxury of attending every game.

Yes. NTUA must stay (just finish it 5 seconds prior to the match start siren to avoid the game starting while the song is finishing - and to let supporters give out a rousing cheer after it).
As REH stated, plenty of time for all that stuff to occur.

FWIW I never warmed to NGI - meh to me.
Fireworks are fine by me, and can be done in conjunction with lightning bolts on the screens anyway.
