Why is it the worst?
Hard to get to? Im all for bagging it for the no pubs. But for the transport side of things its the best in SydneyIn the middle of nowhere
Hard to get to
Cost of parking is astronomical
Surface stinks
Shape of 'oval' stinks
Takes forever to get to your seat
Nothing around it
Full of Sydney people
Sydney is always one of the teams playing

So a train station, a bus station, cab ranks and numerous car parks within a 2min walk is not easy? OoookBeing the best in Sydney doesn't make it easy to get to
Obviously missing a tram link....So a train station, a bus station, cab ranks and numerous car parks within a 2min walk is not easy? Ooook

We are spoilt in melbourneSo a train station, a bus station, cab ranks and numerous car parks within a 2min walk is not easy? Ooook
They are not trying to make the stadium a permanent rectangle stadium, the proposal has retractable stand to change it from an oval to a rectangle.
The proposal is $350m, the stadium wants the NSW government to fund the majority of it. Apparently NSW has $2billion to spend on a whole range of things, they have said they are going to spend on sports entertainment but Sydney football stadium and Parramatta Stadium are also wanting major upgrades and it's unlikely the government will have enough for all 3I think that's what this thread is saying. Why bother?
To convert it in to a perfect retractable stadium with upper decks and lower decks moving plus a roof? That's going to cost millions and millions. And it wont be as good as that animation, nor will the turf be perfect. Or it will be perfect but they'll only use it twice a year because it will be massively costly to retract those huge stands and change the configuration.
Instead they can convert it to a rectangle and leave it as one. With the cash savings in time they can upgrade Spotless.
With the Swans farewelling the joint the biggest down sides will be Sydney derbies (AFL and BBL, which happen once a year at the Western Sydney teams home ground) and (big) Giants finals. No matter who's playing no one wants a 25k prelim final. It's certainly not the end of the world either. But the hope would be the Giants time their run at regular big finals at the same time as when there is funding and capability to upgrade Spotless maybe to 35 would be solid enough for a final.
Sounds easy, but not if you have to take another bus, train, ferry, cab etc to get to a changeover. And not if the train or cab takes a long time even if it's just one trip. Not really hard, but not as convenient as Melbourne. So a train station, a bus station, cab ranks and numerous car parks within a 2min walk is not easy? Ooook
Yeah but you can spend 200mil (complete estimate) just making it a rectangle. It will save massively on the roof cost, plus the turf cost, plus the engineering of the stands and so on.The proposal is $350m, the stadium wants the NSW government to fund the majority of it. I agree, I said earlier in the thread it'll be a waste of money. But that's up to them what they want and what they want to spend.Yeah but you can spend 200mil (complete estimate) just making it a rectangle. It will save massively on the roof cost, plus the turf cost, plus the engineering of the stands and so on.
Then you can pocket 150mil and within 10 years you could spend that upgrading Spotless with another 5-10k of just simple open seating and some basic upgrades.
3 rugby league clubs would be happy. Soccer and origin representatives would be happy, they'd have the best 80k rectangular stadium in the country for huge games, a truly world class rectangular field instead of a compromise. Rugby union finals would be happy. And whilst AFL or cricket couldn't host any big games (which might never happen) they do have a 30-35k stadium all to themselves that fits them perfectly for most games.
International cricket in NSW should never be played anywhere other than the SCG.Its not just AFL, but been able to host the Big Bash games and or one day internationals it needs to stay an Oval.

Yes if it was organised by the WA government, luckily i wont be.That would cost $1b+ IMO.
just perhaps they saw the Asian Cup final with a full house on 'that cow paddock' and thought well this is brilliant - put on a good game and people will come .Make it rectangular, so teams don't have to play on that horrendous cow paddock.
Giants are a decade or more from needing more capacity than can be provided at Blacktown.
You forgot to mention the location of the joint.. It's on the tip of what we like to call little Lebanon, 5 mins further West and you have the bottom of the pig pit for humanity. The location, stadium and surface is a catastrophic failure.

It's easy enough to get to via public transport, as the crowd dribbles inHard to get to? Im all for bagging it for the no pubs. But for the transport side of things its the best in Sydney

It is in the geographic center of population for Sydney
The NSW Government has committed $600m to stadium infrastructure, the fight is over the share between SFS (backed by the NRL), ANZ & Parramatta. The proposal is $350m, the stadium wants the NSW government to fund the majority of it.
